I have a file server in the loft which holds around 8 hard drives, and each of these are mapped on my Acer Revo.

If I want to move a file from one of those drives to another what is the quickest way?

I have tried simply using the mapped drives on the Revo but the times have been huge. When I do it this way are the files moving over the network and back again!?

I also have installed Logmein and can remotely access the file server and move them locally which seems to be quicker.

What's the theory behind this and is there a better way?

The problem with the copy on the Revo is that you are doing it via your Revo rather than moving it directly from drive to drive, so the data is coming down the network cable/wireless via your Revo then back up to the other drive.

If you connect to your file server via remote services (such as logmein) you then have access to the drives directly and the copy is then from drive to drive - a lot quicker - this is the best method to do it.
