Obviously this will be in two to three months time. There is absolutely no way I will be queuing for hours outside an apple store.

Is the easiest way to register at the apple website? When it becomes available to pre order for delivery. Was just wondering how you have all gone about purchasing iPad's in the past?

If you want a Wi-Fi only one just pre order online on the apple store website. If you are early enough it should be delivered on release date or the day after. For a Wi-Fi + 3G one I wouldn't know what to say about what is the best way to get one. Someone else might be able to help you on that one.

I will just buy the wifi only one. I can tether it with my mobile phone. I am thinking about buying the 32gb model. I can't see 16gb lasting long. I just hope apple decides to add a micro sd card slot onto it. But I think that is highly unlikely.

For the iPad 2 there were no pre-orders. Online orders started the same day as it went on sale in stores. Ran out super quick too.

Obviously that might change for the next model, but then again Apple may not wish to give competitors that head start.

In that case the quickest and easiest way is to check these forums and sites like HKUD to find out where there's stock.

PC World are always a good bet. I've bought both iPads from them on launch day without having to queue for more than 15-20 minutes tops.

Same here on iPad 1st Gen day 1 but had to travel for a store that had plans to stick it, as they were very short sighted in how much it was going to change the market!

Cheers mate. The video below is from my local apple store. As you can see the queue is quite long. I just want to go straight in buy the thing and leave.

I find it very strange that people are willing to queue for hours.

I am in no rush to buy the iPad 3 will wait and see what it's like first. I didn't bother with the iPad 2 due to the naff cameras and the screen issue. My iPad 1 still works perfectly and because of iOS 5 I may not bother with another iPad until this one dies.

This will be my very first ipad. If your original does everything you need their is no need to change it. I will make the ipad 3 last me 3-4 years before another upgrade.

I'll probably go for one of these if I can get a good deal. I like to miss a generation (if you can call them that) of Apple stuff. So I only have the iPad1 and iPhone4, will upgrade when the iPad3 and iPhone5 comes out this year or next. Not fussed.

Danny2012, why would you decide to buy an iPad3 before even knowing the specification.

I expect the prime target for the iPad3 to be a down market product that Apple desperately need to compete with Amazon's Kindle and Kindle Fire. That means a product at least half the price of the current cheapest iPad2, which means it has to have a much, much lower product cost, which in turn means much less functionality.

If that is what you have been waiting for then fine.

I beg to differ. Apple don't generally introduce a new product within an existing range and drop it in as a cheaper alternative.

If you look at the iPhone, for example, they brought out the 4S and kept both 3GS and 4 on sale and dropped the pricing to compete with the cheaper alternatives. This was despite the rumours of the new phone being a cheaper less functional model.

I can see them doing this with the iPad 2 when introducing an iPad 3. I can even see them introducing a smaller model alongside a new 9.7" model but I just don't see them solely bringing out a cheaper one personally.

It's only personal opinion at the end of the day though, but all good fun on the run up to anything being announced... :)

I'd disagree with that. Apple don't need to compete with anyone and the next iPad will continue to improve on the previous. When you have people queueing for hours just to get your new product, then you certainly don't need to worry about the Amazon effort.

bpsmith is correct that when the iPad3 comes out, the iPad2 will be reduced meaning it and the iPad1 will be available to compete with the lower end products such as Amazon's Kindle fire.

Purely rumours, but apparently the next iPad will have a much higher resolution screen.

I was making a joke about the kindle.... I was gonna do "what is a book?" which might of been funnier? Maybe not...

Seriously though, why does everyone think one device should do everything? Or a device that does do everything should compete or somehow be cut down to do a simple minor thing that already had a solution hundreds of years old that works perfectly, is cheap and recyclable?

Oh Lordy... A renewable resource has obvious advantages to one that isn't, creates and releases many toxins into our environment just to make it and worse yet requires more poison and pollution just for it to function and here is the kicker, it has an incredibly short lifespan compared to a book... Which then multiplies the release of polution and the materielas used in its manufacture are finite...I could go on...

Not to mention dropping your paperback in the tub won't kill it... Neither will dropping it off a balcony...

    Good grief dude...

Swings and roundabouts it seems, considering how many thousand books you can read in its lifetime!

Its negligible even, if you factor in all the additional things that go into getting a book from a tree to sitting in your hands at home. A book isn't exactly carbon neutral either fella. Oh Lordy.

How did we get from buying an iPad 3 to reusing/recycling books?

the ipad3 will be our first ipad as well, so i am hoping for great things. if it isn't a massive leap forwards and a better camera isn't built in etc then i will simply get a cheaper ipad 2.

I'm looking forward to ipad 3. My ipad 1 is getting a bit long in the tooth. Sometimes I can't even launch the damn calculator without resetting it, since updating to ios5, and the browser is a right pain with reloading tabs.

My iPad 1st Gen from release day runs perfectly on latest iOS. Strange how others suffer so many issues.
