quick sale of goods act question

if i was to buy an electrical item from a high street retailer and when i got it home i found it to be faulty , would i have to accept a repair or am i entitled to a refund even though the receipt says if the box is opened and returned within 28 days the item will be repaired at no cost to myself :eek: , answers asap please --------- paul :hiya:

Just take it back Paul. The item must be fit for purpose; so it must work. You can only determine if it works by trying it which usually requires removing it from the box. What they have sold you is something of unmerchantable quality and so have not honoured their part of the contract.
