I have a 5.1 creative soundblaster card which has digital out on the back.

I have a home cinema that has an optical input but no coaxial input.

Can I use a miniplug to toslink cable (http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acatalog/AC5079.gif) in order to use my home cinema for surround sound with my pc?

    Thanks

No, the cable you have linked to is still an optical cable, just with a different connection on one end. What it sound like you need is a digital coax to optical converter like This and then standard digital coax and Toslink optical cables.

Thankyou, I am getting one of those plus the toslink cable I need.

Out of interest, Say I wanted to purchase a whole new sound setup in the future with 7.1 creative speakers, what soundcard, speakers, external dvd player and other units would you recommend?

    Thanks again

How much have/would you have to spend on the new setup?
