Quick question about tyre/alloy sizes

Well-known Member
I currently have 15" alloys on my car, and pretty much all 4 tyres need to be replaced.

Rather than get 4 new ones, for about the same price I can get 4 x 16" alloys with tyres that have about 6mm tread on, which will last me a good while. It's a direct fit.

But my question is - will I have to buy a spare 16" for the boot, or if I get a flat will the current 15" spare suffice to get me where I'm going/home?

If it's any help the current tyre size is 205/60/R16, and the new one would be 205/55/R16.

Thanks :)

Err, both sizes you quote are 16". I'll presume the first one should be 15"....

The final diameter when going from 205/60/15 to 205/55/16 will be just 4.9mm bigger, which is negligible. Your speedo will read 0.5mph under normal, but as it probably reads 2-3mph over anyway it's no big deal. It won't matter with regards to the spare.
