I am running with a Gigabyte GA7S748 MB.

I have a spare stick of PC2100 RAM, will the system work it I put this into a second DIMM if the first DIMM contains PC2700 RAM?

    Thanks

As long as the BIOS allows you to select the memory speed and you do so at the lower speed then I see no reason at all why it wouldn't work .. also take care to note the CAS latency and other characteristics of the slower memory strip if dealing with a BIOS that has such detailed settings.

i used to have a setup like that, and the faster memory just ran at the slower speed.
