Quick Amp question

Active Member
Hi all,

Hopefully this will be a straight forward answer. I bought the Marantz PM6003 (45W) paired with Monitor Audio C180-T2 speakers:

Your Speaker - C180-T2 | Monitor Audio

Frequency Response: 60 Hz - 25 KHz
Sensitivity ([email protected]): 90 dB
Impedance (Nominal): 6 + 6 ohms
Power Handling (RMS): 120 W
Maximum SPL
(Single unit in free space): 111.6 dBA
Recommended Amp Requirements: 10 - 120 W

I basically want to know, is the amp i've gone for ok as its only 45W and the speaker is 120W? Is it better to get speakers that are rated higher than the amp? I found I can only turn the volume around half way before the speaker distorts.

The numbers don't mean that much and most amplifiers will distort beyond half way. If you want louder sound get bigger, more efficient speakers and or a better quality, higher-powered amplifier.
