    Dear all,

I am hoping you can help me with a few questions I have about what sort of equipment that would be needed to have a satellite setup in Turkey that is able to receive UK broadcasts other than BBC World.

I am not very knowledgeable about these things, so am hoping someone here can provide some answers ..

    1. What sort of satellite dish would be appropriate - how big would it be?
    2. What is a good receiver - would like to be able to record TV also if poss.
    3. What other equipment would be needed ( i've seen 'LNB' mentioned here but what is this? )
    4. What TV channels can be picked up? BBC1, ITV etc ?
    5. What satellite would the dish need to be pointed at for these channels?

I am sorry for all the questions - my mum is emigrating to Turkey and is wanted to continue to receive the usual Eastenders, Corrie etc etc and I don't really know enough to answer.

Any help would be really appreciated ... :lease:

I'm afraid she's gonna need a very big dish. See
    http://www.satcure.co.uk/2d/

LNB is "Low Noise Blockdownconverer". It sits on the dish arm and collects the very weak signals concentrated by the parabolic dish. It converts the block of transponder microwave frequencies to a block of lower frequencies that will pass down coaxial cable (instead of through air and space) to the receiver.

    http://www.astra2d.com/turkey.htm

kingofsat has some maps indicating dish size as well e.g.

    http://en.kingofsat.net/beams.php?s=9&b=12

I found this elsewhere asking the same as you:

"Hi Iam In Fethiye S/w Turkey Most Of The dishes Installed Down Here Are 3 MTR BBC/ITV 95% Of The Time But Would Reconmend 4Mtr The Alignment Is Very Critical And You Drop afew dbs When alignment to 2D Compared to 2A Eurobird Etc Hence You Don't Get The Full Works So you would want to motorise it iam using a 2.4 mtr at this moment Can See Some Of The Itv/BBc Transponders On The Swires Annie But To Weak To Lock Movies Sports Ch4/5 No problem Have a few Drop outs when weather is Very bad"
