Not sure if this should be here or under AV Amps will post in both.

Set up the Marantz SR5200 last night. Connected TV to TV in via Audio scokets at rear of television which is a bulk standard Sony trinitron 3:4 set somthing like a KV29F2 or F3. The sound is dreadful (distorted ) if I watch terrestrial channels yet if I play the DVD and pick up audio via the TV the sound is clear. Just wondering if the audio outs on the TV are preouts or not. If they arent is there anyway I can use them or will my only route be to take a line off one of the scarts (which will be tricky as they are both in use and only one has out

Sound is clear from terrestrial channels if I pick them up via the Video, I was hoping to use the TV for analog source so that I could get sound regardless of the input source to the TV (eg one point for VCR, TV and On digital rather than 3 seperate connections to Amp)

I had the opposite problem to you - sound output from tv was too quiet.

Sony tv's have variable phono outputs. You need to adjust the 'headphone volume' on the tv's menu. Daft idea or what?

Thanks lynx. Problem solved, reduced headphone level has eliminated distortion
