I couldn't find searching. Right now I am feeding the TV directly with two HDMI's. One for the Directv and one for 4K player. Audio is via an older 5.1 AVS through Toslink. The question I have is this Blu-Ray player says in the settings for video to select 'auto' if connecting to TV's providing display information (EDID) and it will automatically select the best resolution. Further it states that if connected to a TV that supports Dolby Vision the resolution can only be set to Auto or 2160p.
My question is if I set that DVD menu to 'auto' will the Sony know that the DVD being played is standard, HD, or 4K and do it's thing?

From the player manual:
Resolution
Sets the output resolution of the HDMI video signal. Refer to page 11 for details about the resolution setting.
[Auto] If the HDMI OUT jack is connected to
TVs providing display information (EDID), automatically selects the resolution best suited to the connected TV.

[576p] Outputs 576 lines of progressive video.

[720p] Outputs 720 lines of progressive video.

[1080i] Outputs 1080 lines of interlaced video.

[1080p] Outputs 1080 lines of progressive video.

[2160p] Outputs 2160 lines of progressive video.
, Note When this unit is connected to a TV that supports Dolby Vision, the resolution can only be set to [Auto] or [2160p].
