I’m thinking of ordering a box set through the post, I was thinking of ordering from Play. Do the put the box in a box of just post them in a Jif bag. And what condition do the generally arrive in (the box set, box and DVD’s).

Have had R1&R2 box sets from play in past, both were boxed and well packed and in perfect condition.

My Bruce Lee Box Set (R2) from Play.com came in just a big jiffy bag. But then it was just slip cover over 3 Amaray cases so maybe that's why.

It survived the postage okay though, just a little dent in the corner of the slipcover, nothing serious.

It seems to vary with Play, I had a boxset in a jiffy and wasn't too impressed - though it was ok.

We just received Buffy Series 3 from play and that was posted in a Jiffy bag, although it is a fairly slim line package. It was also the first time I had to actually sign for something from play even thought most of them have the registered post sticker.

I recieved my Die Hard Trilogy from CD-Wow in a cardboard box and it was still battered. :( So there is no real gaurantee.
The only really decent packaging comes from Amazon or StreetsOnline, but you certainly have to pay through the nose for it!
Most DVDs I have got from PLAY have been in poor condition - the worst was the Basic Instinct Ice Pack which was smashed to pieces.
I ordered my Buffy box sets from DVD.co.uk (best price) and they were sent out in a stiff cardboard package and were in perfect condition on arrival.

All this is the only downside about buying region one through the internet - you can never be sure of their condition. If you are spending a fortune on a box set or a special edition, you of course wish it to be in perfect condition! :(

Have to disagree Lex.:) I've had DVDs arrive battered from both Amazon and StreetsOnline. My last order from StreetsOnline was for 3 Warner Bros DVDs and all 3 of them arrived with all the teeth missing from the inner tray :(

The best packager in my experience is Woolworths.co.uk - comes in a cardboard box with an internal plastic tray! :)

    LDR,
I also just received Die Hard trilogy yesterday morning(thursday). I only ordered it on Tuesday. Snugly packed into an external cardboard box, it's fine. Did you get the warning on the website saying it was coming direct from the States and you may be liable for customs costs? Surely, it didn't come direct from the US in two 2 days(?), sounds more like the usual warehouse/whatever to me.

Not the ones I get :(

Amazon is always that intricate folded cardboard thingymajig.

Streetsonline is always a tough cardboard box, no inner plastic tray :(

What is it with you and packaging? You always get the best DVD packaging, and now you're getting the best postal packaging? ;) :p

You ordered it from CD-Wow? They send all their stuff from Hong Kong (You can tell pretty much where any parcel has come from because it is usually stamped in the top right hand corner) :)

I have bought several DVD from StreetsOnline/MVC and they all arrived in white cardboard boxes with black plastic trays.
Amazon have the wrap around cardboard with plastic bubble-wrap which really protects the contents - I think they are the best ;)

    Lex,
Oops, sorry, meant to mention that it was from Play.

Re postmark: Doh! Of course you're right. I'd thrown the box away without looking. Have just retrieved it, postmark is Belgium.

I forgot about MVC! Yes, I have received the boxes with trays from them. Not from StreetsOnline though

I've changed my mind about Woolies. :D When Amazon use the cardboard box (not wraparound) with the air bags inside it where the contents are shrinkwrapped to a sheet of toughened cardboard inside..... that's the best :D

I emailed Amazon once to complain about that wraparound packaging because all my CDs were crushed inside it. They apologised profusely, told me that the packaging had undergone extensive testing and there was nothing wrong with it, and sent me about 10 replacement CD cases to keep me happy :) :) :)

I do love Amazon's customer service - shame they're so expensive ordinarily

Great :D I thought that was all just a pile of hash on their website about shipping from the US and now you've confirmed it. Think it's just to keep "official viewers" happy :)

I know - tell me about it!! Perhaps StreetsOnline ran out of the decent packaging

I have only ever placed 2 orders with StreetsOnline though. I had no choice at the time as the MVC server was wrongly adding postage to the orders when it was supposed to be free postage week :D

Received the BTTF box set from Ezydvd this week, came in a cardboard box. No damage at all on contents, not bad for something from the other side of the world. It was the first time i'd used them, and their service and delivery time impressed me as well. I'll definately consider using them again.

I've received lots of DVDs from EzyDVD and not a single one has arrived damaged.

More impressive is the fact that not a single DVD has come away from its holder during transit - I think it must be to do with the small polystyrene pieces that they put inside the cases to prevent this :)

In the days when I used them, I received one disk that had come loose inside the Amaray case and was scratched but it played okay.

Padded envelope bag (white one, not Jiffy).

If it's something that is more 'sensitive', then they usually use two (e.g. Memento SE, Total Recall LE).

I've never ordered a box set from them.

If you got a problem with it when it arrives though they'll give you no end of grief, as you know from reading my other thread :(

Thanks for the quick reply Squirrel. Just that I was after a Box Set and thought that they would be safer to order from than Play being in this country.;)

I've had mixed fortunes with the boxsets i've purchased. I ordered the first 2 Bond boxsets from Disc Emporium and it looked as if someone had been playing football with them! In fact the condition was so poor i binned the boxes immediately and shelved the dvds normally. I ordered the 3rd set from Play which arrived in perfect condition (not that it now mattered) although my Die Hard trilogy, also from Play, looked as if it had indeed..died hard!!!! It's fair to say that i was somewhat relieved to see my BTTF set arrive from CD-Wow unblemished!
