    Hi

I am interested in the above amp but need some info:

You have your DVD or CD player connected to the Z9 via coaxial or optical input.

When you play a 2 channel PCM stereo source such as a normal CD, does the Pure Direct mode work, and if so, does it output through the front L/R speakers only (because it is a 2.0 channel signal) and ignore the sub channel (as it should)?

I have tried this on a 3805: This gives a 2.0 output on pur direct from PCM. On a Denon 1sr, the pur direct from 2 channel PCM also outpus from the sub channel (2.1).

    Any assistance greatly appreciated.

    Tom.

I would think it depends on how you've set up the sub. Also isn't the idea of pure direct mode to use the analogue connections? Otherwise you're using the amp's internal processing which the direct mode is meant to bypass. Sorry I haven't answered your question :p

    Hi

On the 3805, you can apply Pure Direct to a PCM input and you get 2.0 out - ideal. It treats the front speakers as Large and does no further DSP or bass managament after the D/A conversion.

I was wondering if the Yamaha did the same thing ?

    thanks

    Tom.

As I own one of these I can confirm the Yamaha Specs. When running in pure direct using the anlouge connections (the only option) it by passes all bass management and all other sound settings. The pure direct mode with a good CD player makes the Z9 a very respectable music performer.
