A friend of mine is looking to get an Apple device purely to use facetime with his God daughter in a another country, who owns an ipad.

He isnt looking to replace his android devices, just get a facetime device as cheaply as possible.

I was reluctant to suggest anything without posting here first, I previously pointed my mother in law towards an early model Ipad that soon stopped being supported lol

Any suggestions for the most cost effective device that ideally wont be obselete too quickly?

    Thanks very much

PS I have suggested he just uses Skype instead but he's adament the person at the other end couldnt set up skype

A 6 I imagine. Or a 6S. Nice size screen and relatively new.

Thanks, I was thinking similar. I just used my Sons 6+ for a week when my phone was being repaired and it seemed fairly decent.

Would you expect a 6 to be supported for the next few years?

Probably. But the battery will also be older and it will be unsupported quicker.

Go for the 6S, or if it’s purely for FaceTime then perhaps an iPad would be a better choice as it has a larger screen and bigger battery.

You can get an iPad mini 3/4 (4 being the latest) for around £200/250 on gumtree/eBay

    New is around £300/400
