My current Xbox is hooked up to Logitech Z-680 5.1 speakers via optical. As you know, the optical cable plugs directly into the SCART unit of the Xbox.

For the Xbox 360, I was thinking of upgrading my speakers to Logitech's new Z5500 range as my experiences with the Z-680 are quite positive. I've also come to understand that component cables will produce the best possible PQ on an LCD screen such as the V-Series from Sony. My question is, where will the optical cable go if one end is obviously plugged into the decoder of the speakers themselves?

    Thanks a bunch. :)

Get hold of the official HD kit from liksang , it has an optical out on it just like the official scart - great quality too (+ component cables :D ).

Might also want to read this elsewhere as far as getting HD picture from your XBox without having to hardmod it.

    Ok Matey?

    Thanks Bilbo.

EDIT: I don't seem to be able to find this kit on lik-sang.

    Hm. It says:

"High definition AV pack for all Xbox consoles (Except PAL)."

Sadly, I live in pal territory.:(

EDIT: I wonder why it won't work with pal consoles though. It's just a cable.

EDIT 2: Pal units are available also so I'm gonna be all right. Thanks Bilbo.

The cable will work regardless - what they mean is that the Hi Def capabilities are technically not available on an out of the box PAL machine (all you would get is a slightly better than RGB picture). Thats why you have to do the mod.

But with the 360 being backwards compatible, I might as well use my Xbox 360 all the way. In essence, the old Xbox becomes utterly obsolete in every conceivable way, except for our living room where a DVD player is still lacking.

Obsolete unless you actually want to play any original Xbox games - the backwards compatibility has not been confirmed - nor has what form it will take :lesson:
