The quest for a high end Figure 8 plug has been around for a while and a few people regularly post on these forums to check the status of this holy grail of AV cables.

I have decided that enough is enough. I have approached a couple of electrical cable manufacturers to check the feasibility and potential costs associated with building a prototype with an aim of going into production.

What I would like to ask the members of this forum is for feedback on the following items:
    • What specification would you look for e.g. Silver or Gold plating, accepted cable diameter
    • What cost would you be prepared to pay e.g. Wattgate 320 @ £ 20.00 or Wattgate 350 @ £65.00
    • Would you consider upgrading your cables if a new figure 8 plug became available
    • How many cables would you look to upgrade

Once armed with this information, I can then start to workout production costs and get a better understanding of what I am looking to take on.

    Thanks
    Paul

I'd go for some but wouldn't be looking to spend more than about a £5. Basically just a bigger one for larger cable with well machined contacts and solder points.

Don't forget the cloverleaf connector for projectors.

    Matt,
Thanks for the response. No Wattgate do not make a Figure 8 plug. I was using them as an example of build quality Vs. Price

I use both the Wattgate 320 and 350 with Van den Hul Mainsstream cable. My own view is that the 350 does perform better than the 320.

I also have Mark Grant Fig. 8 cables which are very good, but they are terminated with a 60p figure 8 plug. I am sure that Mark would use a better quality plug if they were available.

I would be interested in such a plug, I'd be prepared to pay £15 for one. Does anyone know where I an get a cheap figure 8 plug to use in the meantime?

Audusa Eupen also use fig8 plug.
I'm looking also for a good fig8 plug, so, no one know any manufacture? All my cables are made for me, using Mainsstream, Lorad and Lapp and waiting for a Eupen for my dvd player.

I bought a couple of fig 8 leads from DNM - I think they cost about £25.

Just to let people know. If did a bit of digging around and had a chat with a few vendors. To produce the setup to build a prototype would cost around 2k.

So at the moment I am hanging back until I can find a cheaper source. I am now looking outside the UK.

This is an old thread :)

Any luck with finding decent quality figure 8 and maybe 'clover leaf' connectors - I need a large quantity soon if anyone knows a supplier.

    Thanks,

    Mark.
