Only speakers that are not magnetically shielded will harm a TV and centre speakers are always magnetically shielded.

The tell tale sign is colour staining.

I was led to believe that RPtv's were immune to this. Is this the case?

The magnetic field generated from most speakers will damage a CRT (cathode ray tube) if it's within 30cm. All centre speakers should be shielded to prevent this. I don't know what type of projectors RPTV's use but it may well be CRT, especially in high end models.

In my experience RP TVs are not immune, but it doesn't matter because most center speakers (if not all speakers) nowadays are magnetically shielded.

Most RPTV use CRT and thus are allergic to magnetic interference.
However, as mentioned the center should be shielded and therfore not harm the TV.

Test:switch to an AV channel without an input being present (so you should get a blue screen). If you see the color changing to green or red/purple at some parts of the screen there is a magnetic field too close.
