Good news for all QUEEN fans.

Queen are possibly doing a few dates this year

    :D :) :D

Although it will never be the same without Freddie:( I'd be well up for it.
I've seen Brian and Roger a few times in the last ten years, and although individually they're very good, it would be great to see them all back on stage together.
I don't know if John will be there (a bit reclusive I believe)

Who do you think should do the vocals?

    My personal choices:-

    Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters)

    Gary Cherone (Extreme)

    Axl Rose (Guns n Roses)

Robbie Williams (If we get desperate!!)

Yes - I'd love to see Axl do it - but would his ego let him ?

It pains me to say this ('cos I can't stand him) but George Michael did a good job some years ago at some live gig - I think it was the Freddie tribute concert

I agree. Don't particularly like the bloke, but he does pull off Freddie's role reasonably well.

I'd be suprised if John Deacon shows, as it would seem he's cut all Queen ties for some time now.

There has been a persistent rumour going around for a few weeks now that George Michael has been rehearsing/recording with the band.Don't know about John Deacon though, didn't anyone else notice that when he was playing in Freddie Mercury tribute concert that he looked totally ****ed off throughout the whole show.It looked like that he realised that "The show could NOT go on"
    Just my 2p worth.

It definitely won't be George Michael.
He's been ruled out (thank goodness)

I couldn't see him leaping around the stage and having the audience eating out his hands:D

Why? Never be Freddie Mercury but he did a good job, when he sang with them. Not Axle Rose, please god, no.:( FM was a camp operatic singer, dont think Axle is quite that:eek: But GM fits the bill.

As an aside, I understand INXS have been touring with Blondie. Who's been fronting them?? Gotta go a long way to match Michael Hutchence.

An Aussie singer called Jon Stevens. I have heard a few solo tracks from him and he is rather good IMHO. I've seen a review of him with INXS and they said that he fitted in well.

I'd rather them use a female singer because there is no male singer on the planet who could get even remotely close to Freddie!

I heard a rumour that Clare Sweeney may yet be a candidate, if that's true i'm slitting wrists now cos i don't want no scouse soap actress bint fronting the Second Greatest Band Of all Time:mad:

    Amen.

The more I think about Axl - the more I know he's not the one. He's too much of a screamer for Queen. He would not change his singing style for anyone and he would try to put his own stuf into it (he'd be effing and blinding all the way through).

To really put the cat amongst the pidgeons - what about Robbie Williams ? He's got the stage presence and confidence to carry it off - he can sing - he's chirpy - and let's face it, no-one is ever going to be a Freddie substitute as he was unique.

Why on earth would Robbie Williams want to do it? He'd laugh his arse off if he ever got the phone call.

Surely it's much more likely they would tour with members of the WWRY cast.

Suggesting Queen tour with RW is a bit like suggesting that the Doors reform with Will Young.

I think the main problem is that Queen fans will probably object to anybody doing it. It wouldn't suprise me if Bryan May ended up doing a lot of the vocals

I agree, that's why Anastacia would front so well, she has the stage presence, personality, vocal power / range and she appeals to various sexualities as did Freddie.
I could see her pulling it off

    How about Kevin Rowland.

He has a great voice (though not the power of Freddie), is prone to a bit of cross dressing (see cover to his solo album) and isn't really doing much.

John Deacon's always looked a miserable sod so I don't think you could read too much into that.

How about Paul Young!!? Robert Plant?

How about the frontman from one of the many Queen tribute bands out there?

At least they already know the lyrics :D

Has anyone seen any of them?

I've seen a tribute band called Ga Ga live and they were pretty good, they didn't try to look like the band (good idea) and managed to sound good with only three of them!

Did see another band at the convention a few years ago, think it might have been Flash Harry, they were good but had probs with the tape maching during Bo Rhap:rolleyes:

I think most fans would rather see someone with a great voice who just stood there doing justice to the songs, rather than a Gary Cherone-type prancing around trying to be Freddie!

    Amen.

    Dr Magus

Have you been to any of the recent fan club conventions?

I went to 3 or 4 back in the late 80's, quite enjoyed them.
Though this was before they started having any tribute bands playing.
Haven't been to any since due to family commitments etc....

I'm still in the fan club, (about 20 yrs now I think) so still get the application forms, might consider going again one day.

    Cheers....thamesider

I went to the conventions in 95, 96 & 97. I was in the fan club for 10 years till last year but didn't bother renewing my membership.

95 was a good one cos everyone was given a special edition of Bo Rhap on purple vinyl! Cost £5 each, a week later they were being sold to collectors £250-300:eek:

I never sold mine though, i wonder how much it'd be worth now.

Did you get to see Queen live then, Thamesider?

Yes, I was lucky enough to see them 5 times.

Bremen (Germany, school trip!! Dad was in the army) - 1980
    Milton Keynes bowl - 1982
    Birmingham NEC - 1984
    Wembley - 1986
    Knebworth (Last ever) - 1986

    How about yourself?

    You lucky *******:D
The fan club magazine has a collectors corner, i'll have a look through them and see if its priced up.
