Not at all the Bond of the old days, Daniel Craig’s interpretation now thunders out of the camp excesses of the past, but somehow leaves a fair chunk of the essential charm behind at the same time. Now I, personally, don’t mind this. But there is a considerable danger that if the reboot doesn’t learn to embrace a bit more of its established culture then it will swiftly degenerate into just another series of action movies. Bond is so much more than that, but the evidence that his former beguiling, cocksure self is slipping away is certainly there to see on the big screen with Quantum Of Solace.</p>Ironically, that elusive element that many will feel is missing from this instalment can be identified by the film’s very title. For here, there simply is no tangible quantum of solace – for the film simply refuses to slow down, or to take any prisoners. But, be that as it may, Bond is on fine explosive form and this proves, if ever there had been shred of doubt, that Daniel Craig was born to play this role.

Ultimately, this is NEW BOND and, as such, when held up against the character's “own” genre and traditions, it comes up short. But, when you understand and accept the required evolution that he has gone through, there can be no argument that NEW BOND is a clear winner. I don't think the film is quite as good as Casino Royale, therefore I am awarding it 8 out of 10. But this is an incredibly strong 8 out 10, folks.

Enormously recommended.

Nice one Chris...:smashin:
And I agree 100% with you that now it's has been well and truly re-booted, it's time to "introduce" some of the characters that make Bond BOND - which I personally thought this film was screaming out for!. Moneypenny and Q for starters - as long as we don't get the farcical meetings that Q had with Bosnans Bond, everything should be fine - after all, they've done everything else right so far, haven't they?

I particularly love the character development in this instalment - the relationship between Bond & M is really brewing nicely - and I think they will find it hard to replace Dame Judie as the Admiral...

Excellent review as always my friend - and well worth the wait me thinks...;):smashin:

Nice review Chris :)

However, I was personally disappointed at QOS. It's an AWOL Bond, an AWOL plot and I think in time it maybe found to be lacking in originality to help find its place in the franchise. It has it's place but it's nowhere near the top.

Casino Royale gave us a gritty Bond, QOS gives us a bitty Bond.

From the opening sequences, to the hand to hand fight scenes, to the death of Agent Fields.....you've seen it all somewhere else before. What you have not seen before is the discolouring of the enemy in this film. Actually was there ever one and who was he fighting apart from his inner demons?

Well they say imtitation is the greatest from of flattery. The originator here becomes the imitator and the imitator becomes the orginator.

If Carly Simon was to say "nobody does it better......" hand on heart I would tell her "to shut it and play another tune luv. The other J.B. franchise does and did."

Great 1 Chris

Cant wait to see the film myself

went last night the general consensus was 6/10 some good action sequences linked by a flimsy plot and underdeveloped supporting characters.

bond seems out of date now compared to movies like the Bourne series

a step backwards all in all

Underdeveloped characters??!!??

did you see the same film as me?

You must have missed the line "leave him - he's onto something and I trust him..." then.

Undeveloped characters...

you can roll your eyes all you want , the film was a major disapointment alround.

the cinema was full of bond nuts wearing tuxedos and they were agreeing that it wasnt much of a movie and practically every review says the same.

no jokes, no gadgets, not much fun just a weak script gluing together some so so action sequences.

Not Daniel Craigs fault but is was poor

maybe you went to a special cinema with a Rose tinted screen

Wouldn't life be boring if we all liked the same thing...?

Well - you did say I could roll my eyes all I want...my remarks were directed directly at the underveloped character statement - and - if you read my post correctly - you would have know that...

The story line was very weak and I wasn't the only one that couldn't follow the action scenes. They were so quick and keeps cutting everywhere with close ups and quick wobbly pans.

nice to see unbiased reviews.

I love a good Bond but this was poor by any standard.

Bond is all about quips, gadgets, action sequences and the laydeez

only 2 0ut of 4

this is taking itself far too seriously and has not much fun.

Can barely remember any good laughs in it.

should be renamed 'You Only Watch once!' courtesy of private eye:D

During the Timothy Dalton era I always thought things couldn't get any worse...
Boy, was I wrong.
I hated Casino Royale and then they release this thing...

:(

Really?

Each to their own & I thought much the same way when watching the simply awful Roger Moore portrayal of Bond.

Fortunately they've generally improved since then, including Quantum of Solace, although it was somewhat dissapointing following on from Casino Royale.

So - Timothy Dalton or Daniel Craig actually like they are paid assasins...or Roger Moore poncing around in a clown suit...?
I know which of these are closer to my visiob of Flemings Bond - and 00coco comes nowhere near it.

I wasn't too sure when they cast DC in Casino Royale, whether he could cut the mustard as James Bond.

But after seeing the finished article in CR I have to say that he IS almost as good as the real McCoy (Shaun Connery).

For me all the others are poor imitations, in order of preference

1.Shaun Connery
2.Daniel Craig

3.Piers Brosnan
4.Timothy Dalton
5.Roger Moore
6.George Lazenby

I have not seen quantum yet and looking at some of the reviews it may not be as good as CR but the next bond movie should see a return of the gadgets and Q etc at least so I have read.

Alright then Sean as you insist.:D

This is not the Bond we all like,Only bedded one women in this one,and she got well oiled after it.

Yes very disappointed with this film. Yes plenty of action, but poor story line, hard to follow plot, pathetic villain, and disappointing gals.

Why have the gun barrel graphics at the end instead of the beginning. Very little Bond style music. Apart from M & Felix Leiter, where were all the other bond characters. Where were all the gadgets and the one line quips. Brocolli & Co got this one wrong. It's one thing going back to so called basics and trying to compete with the Bourne films but....

Daniel Craig as Bond - yes he's good, but still no comparison to Sean Connery. I could watch the first 3 bond films over and over again on DVD. Not sure if I'll bother buying QofS when it comes out unless it's to try and see if I could follow it a bit better.

I found this to be a very bland, generic action film that couldnt even do the action sequences properly.

The car chase at the beginning was amazing Im sure, if only the camera had been 20 feet back and not on a steadycam, then we could have seen what was going on.

Thinking back on the film I dont remember Bond having any dialog whatsoever, just the occasional one liner and a brooding look. Not knocking DC as I think he's a very good actor and is doing exactly as the director askes of him. Its just a pity he didnt have anything to do apart from punch people and run away.

As a final note, I didnt think I'd see anything more ridiculous than the stunts in the Vin Diesel turd "XXX," but that sequence with the parachute out of the plane??!?!? Please, that was the stupidest thing Ive ever seen. I like to suspend belief now and then but wow...

Watched it last night and really enjoyed it, good effects and sound and I'll get it for home collection when it's eventually out. I realy like the whole dark and menacing side to DCs Bond. I think it's well worth a watch.

They say the Bond you think is the best is usually the one you gre up. So I used to think Roger Moore was the best. However, not that I have properly grown up - Daniel Craig, we salute you.

Went last night, and QOS is EVEN better than Casino Royale by virtue of more Bourne-esque action sequences, and the fact that the line between bad and good is blurred so much more in this film, and yet it IS Bond.

The next installment should see 007 being a fully formed character, and so the doubters should be convinced in that film.

Well done to all involved in teh new incarnation of Bond.
