    Looking for a larger TV

I do not need a replacement TV, just would like to get a larger screen.

Currently have a 2010 40” 50Hz Sony (KDL40EX403) which is still working faultlessly and will be semi-retired to the bedroom.

Would like to join the masses and get either a 49-50” or a 55”.

We view Standard Def and High Def sources and have no immediate plans for higher resolution feeds.

Would like best value at up to £600

By best value, that is a screen with the best picture in SD and HD, although TV’s with higher resolution pretentions don’t need to be excluded.

A plethora of toys and apps are not as important as picture quality.

Is this 50” Samsung the best value UE50MU6120 from John Lewis (5yr gtee) for £439 with a price match?

    Your suggestions please?

If you still want higher compressed standard definition content to look respectable there is really only one choice, going for the 55" Samsung FHD models.

If you are happy to forgo the quality a little of standard definition for the chance to view UHD content then the best value TVs at 55" are currently the Hisense 55N6800 and Sony 55XE70.

If you do go UHD it definitely pays to get a larger screen, although even with a 55" model you have to view unusually close to notice a difference.
