For that budget & with those features I'd be trying to see if there any Arcam DV27A left (there were some floating around for about £950 new (originaly double that) as they have been replaced by the DV29.)

Maybe also Denon 3910 or Arcam DV79.

(Arcams are generally well thought of for good CD playback in DVD players)

excellent

Presumerbly the picture on play back will also be excellent and surpass my current set up?

Thanks for the advice.

If you can find one check them & see. The DV27A has excellent component output , the denon 3910 has more varied connections available (for future).

I used to have an Arcam FMJ 27, now use a 3910 denon - for exactly the purpose you describe, connected to a krell/martin logan system sounds pretty good for music and looks/sounds amazing on dvd on an 82" screen.

You can always upgrade the sound quality further by changing certain components courtesy of audiocom http://www.1st-4-audio.com/mods/index.asp

Even so, as standard, should blow away your current dvd player for both uses
