Gamespots Quake 4 review for the PC is here .

Semms like a great single player game with outstanding graphics (as you'd expect using the D3 engine) but the multiplayer leaves a bit to be desired by the sound of things. Essentially they have just tried to bring back the feel of Q3 Arena with better graphics and haven't quite pulled it off. It's a shame they they just took this route though as FPS games have moved on and it would have been good to see some new ideas added to the genre (ala Farcry Instincts).

Disappointed by the multi-player; that was the main thing I was looking for! :(

Same here but being Quake it's no doubt going to have a large modding community. I think I'll still wait for a demo though just to see how good (or bad) it really is...

    Btw, here's another review: http://pc.ign.com/articles/658/658263p1.html

I miss a good single player first person shooter, with a decent story and good action scenes, for multiplayer there is always UT 2004 or battlefeilds to fall back on as well as CS and TF for those that are that inclined, i don't know what Q4 would bring new to multiplayer (although i enjoyed q2 multiplayer alot, until UT came out anyway). Was anyone dissapointed by farcry, i doubt it, great single player but i don't know of anyone who plays it multiplayer.

They may still release Qake 4 Team Arena!

After all the Unreal franchise split into single and multy player.
    (Unreal II and Unreal Tournament)

The Quake franchise will probably do the same. That way they can sell twice as many games.

(even though those two games should really just be one.)

The thing is that the MP in Q4 is actually modelled on Q3A so in a sense it is Q4 arena already. The problem isn't a lack of MP just that it's only a graphical update and tries to be exactly the same as Q3A. Most people were hoping for a little more than that as whilst it was great when Q3 came out, MP games have moved on a lot since and it feels rather tired now.

Even though I dont agree with downloading games, I can see why people do it.

When you get half-assed games (like Qake 4`s multyplayer). I can see why people go off spending their hard earned cash on something that gets an average review.

Makers dont have the right to moan about us not paying full price for their games.

If we take a good game like say HL2 as an example, hardly anyone downloaded the game illegaly. Most were happy to pay for it through steam or retail.

So do you not buy any games then?

£25-£30 (as lets be honest who pays £40) is a reasonable price to play for a decent game, but not for a poor game. I basically go by the premise of if a game isn't that good then why waste time playing it.

So really there is no justification for downloading games.

You could also say £100!! for a Nintendo handheld! I could get 3 games for that! :smashin:

I have to agree that the prices in some countries can be a ripp off.
And prices are only going up rather than down.

Here in Japan PS2 game prices have been steadely climbing.
These days a brand new release would cost about 7000yen which is about 35quid.
But thats up from about 5000yen a few years back. (25quid)

Prices are going to be even higher on the PS3 since production costs are going to be higher.

    One other reason is piracy.
That tends to jack up the prices.
    (thanks oxygenuk   )

I received it the other day from Amazon and spent a few hours on it yesterday morning. The game looks and feels like like a mix of quake2 albeit with better graphics and gameplay and unreal 2. You play the occasional part in a squad (even though you have no means to control them) and are given tasks that have to be completed. Its a very competant and enjoyable fps but not a classic, far better than some I have bought and ditched this year *cough* Pariah *cough*.

For those of you who like frag fests, the single player mode is not in the same category as Q3 or unreal tourney. Unfortunately I cant vouch for multiplayer mode.

Graphically its quite good but doesnt seem to have the care that went into HL2- though this could just be me and my perceptions.

The best thing about it for me is the enemy- these really do look like vicious alien thugs, the weapons and the fact that it seems so much like quake 2.

Performance wise, it rusn smoothly at 1600*1200 with med details. Fortunately for me I am playing this on a box with a dual amd4200 and a gt7800 so I am a bit spoilt. :smashin:

Does that mean it doesn't have bots this time around? I know playing against people is better but sometimes I just want to mess about or have a few practice rounds.
