    Hi all,

I'm using AVR300 with Quad Ls 12 / 11 / centre, and a very old REL Q100 subwoofer. I was thinking of changing for the new matching Quad subwoofer, has anybody heard it in action? What kind of deals are people getting?

    ta!

It's supposed to be fantastic, I think it won the sub woofer of the year award for its price bracket in the What Hi Fi awards this month.

It is worth it for the finish alone :D

In fact, you will end up with the system that won What Hi Fi's PRODUCT of the year in that category!!! :smashin:

I should be getting my Quad 21L's in the next few days, looking forward to them :) The L Centre is lovely. Have to get some Marble slabs or some sort of isolation platform though, as I can't have the spikes on the laminate floor  What finish have you gone for? I decided to go for the Rosewood finish.

2p coins are a slightly cheaper (and more discrete option) than the slabs if you want.

Good point mate, forgot about the old 2p coin method :) I'll try that first before shelling out on the marble :) :D

I was told that marble wasn't a good option, because it causes a high frequency resonance.

Anyone else ever hear that, or know if it's valid?

The same person suggested Slate be used, instead of marble or granite.

Yeah! Marble is no good on it's own as an isolation platform. Your speakers will move around on it slightly with it having a polished surface better to use something that will hold the speakers more firmly. I used it under my sub and found it cuts down on the bass weight for the very same reason, spiked or otherwise (especially spiked). You could I suppose cut some rubber matt to fit, that may help.

Fair enough, looks like marble is out :D What about those isotek isolation platforms that have been talked about? I might try to source some rubber mats and cut them to shape if all else fails.

I told the wife about the 2p idea, and she gave me 'the look', don't think she is keen having 2p coins on the floor :D 2p coins != WAF

Don't know about the isotek's but how about good old blue tack! Stick a packet under each speaker. I don't fancy your chances of moving them again without some Weetabix though.

    is the package 12L L CENTRE 11L +SUB?
Is this being sold as a package at a discount price or is it just a question of
    buying individually?
what support/feet does the L centre have?

The L Centre doesn't come with any feet, they supply it with four small rubber stick on pads, which should be effective enough, unfortunately, the depth of my TV isn't big enough to enable use of these, so I had to use sticky pads to stick it down properly without fear of it falling off

    Hi All
I've had a set of 21L's and L centre in maple for over a year now and more than happy with them.

I currently have a Paradigm PW2200 which is a bit of a beast and a bit ugly in black - I'm very interested in the L Sub in a nice maple finish.

I'm sure you would get a discount if you bought the entire package from one place, but I doubt you will find many dealers advertising the fact, Quad, like many other manufacturers and suppliers tend not to allow mass discounting of their products openly by dealers, just like Velodyne do in the UK right now.

Negotiate with a dealer and just plain ask them, what is the best price you can do for me on these speakers, if they want your business, they will play ball, although you do get some who will just refuse to haggle, there are always one or two diamonds out there who are more than willing to get the sale for a tiny loss on their margin.

Sevenoaks have this package for just under £2k. I am not sure if this is any saving, though.

Russell i think that the RRP is about £1930 for the package which is quite a bargain considering what you get :)

The Quad setup was in the What Hi Fi section of the show, I was VERY impressed with the Quad sub, it destroyed anything I heard in the REL room, and was one of the best sounding sub's at the show.

The Genie MS409 sub was also very impressive.

I can see why the Quad sub won the best sub in its price bracket award though, fantastic bit of kit!!

Completely agree 100%. The Quad subwoofer, for me, was one of the highlights of the show. It was so tight and controlled and as always a beautiful finish from Quad.

I was only a little disappointed that they couldn't really test it to full potential. They were showing SW: Empire Strikes Back (the whole movie!) so obviously there were quite a few scenes where there wasn't too much happening. I stuck around though for the light sabre battle at the end and it sounded awesome. :D

The 12L/11L and centre are great but the subwoofer pushes the package to another level. I can see now why it's winning quite a few awards as a stand alone product. Very highly recommend

If you're still looking to fix your spike problem you could take a look at some of the stuff here...

    http://www.hifibitz.co.uk/subcategory.asp?id=42&srchoption=2&manid=0&pagesize=10

more likely to get WAF !

Looking forward to hearing the Quad sub, currently running 22Ls for stereo duty via Quad amp with an L-centre for HC so I reckon the new sub should fit right in, if I can find somewhere to put it...

A friend of mine just purchased the Quad L subwoofer because, wait for it..... it matches his shiny new Pioneer plasma. :D

Fair enough, for £700 he knew it wasn't gonna sound like a dog. But we both weren't prepared for how it's totally transformed his setup. This is a seriously impressive bit of kit and I would urge anyone to put it on their list of subs to demo. It's only been on for the last few hours so can only get better once it loosens up. Awesome.

As we unpacked it, his interior designer jokingly commented that such a lovely looking beast deserved to be handled with gloves. And we all chuckled..... until we opened the manual and a pair of white cloth gloves fell out ! Superb.
