Good news for Quad L owners (hopefully!)

Had word from Rob (Quad & Wharfedale Service Manager) at IAG yesterday that the new L series active sub is due for imminent release:

The Quad subwoofer will be hitting the shops approximately 8 weeks from
now. Its price is likely to be around the £700 mark. It will be a 12 inch
downward firing design with a 300W amplifier and full remote control. It
will be available in identical finish options to the main L series speakers
i.e. Black, Rosewood, Maple and Bird's Eye maple - all in piano lacquer.
It has been submitted for review at What Hi-Fi, that issue appearing in
two months also. We have high expectations of this unit.

Fortunately they appear to have beefed up the specs from the details quoted in the L series brochure. This only stated a 10 inch driver and 150W amp

I wonder if it will be a revelation or the family member to let the side down?
Will be up against some very stiff competition at that price.

I thought that the centre speaker with the poor shielding was already the family member letting the side down

Went into my local dealer this week and he confirmed that Quad have now fixed the shielding issue on their centre speaker. All new ones shipped are fine. We tested it with half a dozen different sets and got no colour bleeding or staining at all.

I decided to stick with their centre speaker (despite it's poor shielding) and mount it 6 inches or so below my TV instead of sitting it directly on top. Doesn't cause any probs now.

Apart from this I'm very happy with the sound, finish & build quality of the unit so I forgive them !

    That's interesting to know Nobber

Might give my dealer a call and see if they'll swap mine out in case I ever want to put it on top of the TV again.

    Cheers

My L Centre is about 10 months old now and I've not noticed any bleeding at all.

This shielding issue apparently only affected Sony trinitron aperture grill tubes so you won't have noticed it.
