i am trying to get a pair to try at the minute as i am looking for a pair of stereo speakers for a quad amp, there are some first impressions from CES show if you search on google.

nothing but praise so far which cant be bad.

but need to listen in my room, the one person i have spoke to has actually spent some time with them loves them.

if you get to hear them let me know your impressions.

We got my Dad a pair as part of a new hi-fi for him for his 60th birthday. With a NAD Receiver and NAD Multi-CD player and QED ordinary biwire cable.

They do sound excellent. I am not much a a hi-fi buff, more into movies, but I think they sound very clear and clean, especially on the treble when compared to my B&W 603 S2's, which frankly in my opinion seem to have a bit of a rough tweeter (might have been a dodgy CD but they sound like a tinny old radio sometimes). Also I listened for the "crossover" as the sound moves between drivers going up or down, could not hear any sign of it. And they coped with Wagner's ride of the valkyries at substantial volume without any sign of distorting.

My Dad, the owner, has excellent hearing, probably perfect pitch and loves his music and he is blown away, although until now he had listened to an "all in one" Sony box that came included with speakers. He really is amazed by how good the new gear sounds.

I agree with the others that they look fantastic (his are in Rosewood). So refined. I wish the bigger ones had been on the market when I got my B&W's, I always wanted gloss black speakers but could never find them (NHT were the only others but hard to find, afford).

I went and had a listen to them and they blew me away , i took them home for a couple of days along with some castles, dynaudio, b&w's, and kefs , they were the best speakers by a long way and they were not the cheapest ( also by a long way ).

I bought them and had them up and running for about a week, using a quad77 amp. Also tried them on my 3802, and they were good on that too.

However the missus doesnt want them sitting in the front room :(
We made a deal that i could convert the loft into a home cinema if i kept amps etc., speakers and wires out of the front room.

and now because of the layout of the loft i can't even set them up in there, gutted !!!

So i have a Quad77 amp, a pair of beutiful 11L's in birds eye maple , pair of atacama stands and £80 worth of cable sitting in boxes

so i might have to see if i can squeeze them in somehow or they will be sold.

Curious to how these can be mounted on a wall? Keyholes on the back?

    Cheers

Seeing as they are ported at the back I am not sure you would want to wall mount them. You could put them on a decent sized shelf though.

    They sure look great.. :D

Anyone think that 4x 11Ls & the L-centre - along with say, the CHT-10 sub - would make a nice AV set?

I just realized that when the guy writing http://www.tnt-audio.com/casse/quad10le.html says

"The smallish (325mm x 190mm x 240mm) enclosures are of the infinite baffle variety (so maybe they can be put right against the back wall)"

He is refering to the Quad 10L - is that a different design maybe ?

BJ (where can I get the 11L cheap ?)

try and get to hear these speakers, they are awesome !!

if i hadnt just bought kef cutom installs i would do exactly what you are thinking.
As a centre speaker dialogue is clean natural and very smooth, you can get to serious volumes without a hint of any harshness.

I have 3 weeks before the work starts on my loft and i have to decide whether to stick with my kef Ci set up or get rid of them and buy another load of 11L's.

i wouldnt buy the centre i would buy another 11L , as i like to keep all speakers exactly the same.

this would mean having a spare 11L or you could use the other half of the pair as rear centre.

Just my personal preference, but i have yet to hear a dedicated centre that blends as well as using the same speaker for all three fronts. whether it be three centre speakers across the front or three l/r speakers.

but i havent heard the 11 centre so i could be wrong with the quads.

    maybe the L centre x3, x5 or x7 could be even better than 3, 5 or 7 11L's.

thats why i said try and hear them.

sorry should have read your post a little slower dint see it said 11 centre. ;)

sorry should have read your post a little slower dint see it said 11 centre.

Think you should read it again - it's the 'L-centre'.. :D

I'm afraid it's gonna have to be a dedicated centre as I can't be having a bookshelf speaker balancing on top of my TV.. :D

I'll wait for it to be released and give it a listen..

I have the Quad 11l's which I like very much. I did find them a bit lacking in the bass though. I have added a Rel T5 subwoofer which adds the missing bass and now I have more than I need :). This gives it a fuller sound. This was an excellent addition so would suggest a subwoofer at some point. At the same time I bought the NAD D3020 amp. Overall I am happy with this set up for the price.

    Hope you enjoy the Quad's.

PS - I find poor recordings sound even worse now!! Good recordings sound even better.
