I ordered the new Pioneer from QED on 4 October 2003 and have paid in full, but I have not received the TV yet.

Has anybody else received the new Pioneer from QED?

Don't worry, I believe they are waiting stock. It's quite normal for them to debit your card straight away.

QED don't have an account with Pioneer so rely on getting them through Miller Bros. I would guess it will be a few weeks yet before they get stock.

Unless you've got a really good deal it may be best to cancel the QED order and get elsewhere.

    Thanks

I ordered the pack for £3,700 including stand and speakers. You now cannot order the Pioneer through QED as they have taken it down from their site.

scott147, I too have a 504 on order with QED.

I used them before for a couple of small appliances and they were punctual. They charged my card immediately and I have to wait for the 504 to arrive in stock

    regards

    Hi mate,

I used them to buy my Videologic Digithreatre DTS last year and found them very helpful.

Again, they debited my card before delivery, but they lived up to my expectations.

I don't believe it is legal for them to charge your card prior to despatch - certainly not if it is mail order. Personally, I would take my business elsewhere - John Lewis will price match anyone and won't charge your card until delivery.

Anybody ordered from Eastern Tapes in Lincoln?

This is my nearest Pioneer specialist.

Clabs, sadly it is not illegal to debit cards before despatch of goods - distance selling regs do allow for refunds on certain conditions. Secondly JL do not price match internet only prices, - unless they have changed their policy in the last month - but I agree their service is quite good.

Consumer protection is less than you think!

Chrise - I work for a mail order company and whilst I am on the techie side of things, I do know that we have been rapped over the nuckles on several occasions on this very matter. I still don't believe it is legal. In any case, whether illegal or not, it doesn't really seem to be best business practice. They have the use of your money until your goods arrive - don't suppose they will pay you interest!

Point taken about JL - I assumed QED were a mail order dealer rather than internet only.

As far as I can find there is no legal restriction (Consumer Credit Act etc) on taking early payments, but it may be against the conditions governing the acceptance of card payments issued by Visa/Mastercard.

I don't know if its really 'illegal'. They can debit you before delivery, but only to a maximum of 50% or so, not more. And not just like that. You have to agree with it! If you're ok with it, then I suppose there's nothing wrong. But it's certainly not their right!

I think the debiting of cards before goods are in stock and being despatched is against the trade association for mail order co's regulations. They are certainly morally quite unjustified, it's not as if the stuff is likely to appear in the next week or so. The 434's are held up for mods, it seems, and no sign of 504's at all, so keeping 4-5k of your dosh is dodgy practice.

I have just been told that QED will be getting these in Feb 2004.

I paid in full at the beginning of October 2003!

    Order cancelled.

I got the same e-mail but will wait and see. I ordered the 504 which was released two months after the 434. I cannot get the 504 anywhere before Feb 2004 anyway, plus I paid £3995 which is a fantastic price.

If QED lives up to its word and deliver on their promises, then I know which company I'll be using for all my future purchases and recommend to all my mates. If on the other hands they don't, then a negative feedback will be left on every possible website starting from pricerunner and ending here in the forum.

I ordered a camera from QED a few years back. They debited my card in full and then proceeded to tell me they had no idea at all when they would be getting any more stock, but I could pick another model if I liked.

    I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

I've bought from them recently, but I'd never place an on spec order on the net, you have to phone them 1st, make sure it's in, and get a delivery date. They're fine like that, just don't give them an opportunity to muck you about.
