    Hi,

I want to get the best possible picture from my Hitachi 42DP5200 Plasma screen, DVD Player and my Sky+. I have a shortlist of the following leads:

    QED 2110 Flat (aka P21) £25
    QED AV21 £35
    IXOS XHT611 Flat £35
    IXOS XHV601 Flat £35
    IXOS XHT601 £32

Apart from the obvious, does anyone know what the best cable is and what the differences are (if any)? I like the look of the QED P21 and it got great reviews but it is only an entry level lead and I wonder if the others would give better performance?

I was thinking of connecting Sky+ directly to the Plasma's only scart, then connecting the DVD from it's scart to the second scart on the Sky+ box.

    Many thanks!

Not a particularly interesting subject then?

Maybe I'll just buy the most expensive & hope I get what I pay for?

It does seem more difficult for people to get as enthusiastic about auditioning and discussing scart leads as it is for plasmas, speakers and amplifiers. I haven't got first hand experience of any of the scart cables that you mentioned but thought I ought to reply so as you know that we aren't just ignoring you :)

The Thor scart lead from TV Cables here looks interesting

    Thanks for your response Ian,

Am I probably right in thinking that all of the Scarts I mentioned (and the Thor one) are much of a muchness? They all look to offer similar benefits just different styles. As far as I can see none of them offer anything "extra", so I think I will have to base my decision on Flat or Standard and which one looks the prettiest! I don't like to buy things cos' they look nice, but I don't know enough about the technology to see what one is the best.

    Thanks anyway!

I only have a 32" screen and I noticed an increase in quality from the freebie to a better scart cable but I'm not sure whether I could tell the difference between each individual make or even the ultra expensive ones. Your screen is bigger than mine so you may be able to tell some differences but I would guess that as long as you have a well made fully screened cable you may struggle to tell the differences (if any)

    Thanks Ian,

I'm going to get the QED P21 I think. It got a good review recently and it looks the best value. I don't think I'll notice any difference between it and the others on my list.

I had the thor scart and changed to a fully wired qed sqart and thought whilst the thor was very good the qed was more pronounced in colours and sharpness...you won't regret getting a qed sqart.... :)

Yes, I think you're right. The only problem is that tvcables.co.uk dont' sell QED scarts but sell the IXOS PS2 component lead and the IXOS XHT611 scart. I'd rather buy from one place and i'd probably save on delivery costs too. (am I penny pinching?)
