Has anyone done any direct comparisions between the above two PSUs?

Just wondering if the noise reduction of the SilenX warrants the extra cost.

I can't offer any comparison cos I've never used SilenX, but I got a q-tech 550 watt PSU and it's really bloody loud. Loud enough to get on my nerves, and I only use my PC for games.

I've got a qtec 550 in my server and its by far the lodest of my psus, I also have an enermax 365, a seisonic ss300 and a seisonic ss350 tornado. That said its also the cheapest by far, ebuyer do them at under £20 and if extreme quiet is not your priority they are far far better than the oem that come with a case.

The 300W Qtech I had initially in my HTPC was quieter than the enermax 365 I replaced it with. The Nexus 3000 I replaced that with was really quiet ( inaudible) but recently its started to make a lot more noise ( worn fan I think). I've got a silenX on order.

Not sure if build quality is variable on the Q-Tech, but I have a 300W on my htpc and it's silent to my ears.

If you read the reviews on ebuyer I think the noise varies depending on model.

qtechs are awful psu's regardless of noise level. you'd be wise to stay well away from them.

Q-Tec and Q-Technology are unrelated: read this (paragraph just before Q-Technology Specs).

Oh and if it was Q-Tec you were looking at, everyone is right they are pretty poor. Hope this helps ;)

As rct points out there are two companies. It is the Q technology one I was looking at from Quietpc.

Did some research on this last night... SilenX seems to be the way to go, especially if the rest of your system is silent :)

Be sure it's a GENUINE SilenX product you are getting.

Ananix produce counterfeit PSUs with a SilenX branding. They are not the same thing. For details, see the SilenX website.

You'll find plenty of the fake stuff on ebay.com going for around £20.

I've currently got a SilenX PSU, HSF and 3 fans winging their way over from the States. The strong pound makes them a bargain. Total cost (before tax if I get stung) is little more than a 400W Zalman PSU from the UK!

Sahll be very interested in your thoughts once it arrives Big Adam. As usual their UK reseller is mega expensive so looks like I will have to take a chance on being hit by customs and by from the US instead.
