Question Q Acoustics 3050 to replace Mordaunt-Short 904?

Not made any changes to AV setup for a while now, oldest component is my floor-standers at 10+ years:
  • Floor-standers: Mordaunt-Short 904
  • Center: Mordaunt-Short Alumni 5
  • Rear: Mordaunt-Short 902i
  • Sub: BK Gemini II
  • Receiver: Denon AVR-1909 (might replace in few years when hdmi 2.1 is available)

Always found the 904's to be a bit weak on the low end, currently have them wired into the sub high input to give them some support below 90hz. Even the smaller 902i's have a bit more oomph and get given a lower crossover setting by Audyssey MultEQ. Think my setup is fine for movies but sometimes feels a bit lacking for music. Is it worth upgrading to the Q Acoustics 3050? Are the 3050i's worth the extra cost? Not sure how much real world difference i'd hear over the 904's? The 3050 frequency is only rated to 44Hz vs 50Hz, but going from at 130mm to 165mm cone should have a real world impact and they are very highly reviewed.

904 Specs:
  • System type: 2-way
  • Enclosure type: Bass-reflex
  • Frequency response ± 3dB: 50 - 22000 Hz
  • Nominal impedance: 4 - 8 Ohm
  • Amplifier Requirements: 15 - 100 W
  • Sensitivity: (2.83V/1m) 89 dB
  • Tweeter: 25 mm (1 in.) soft dome
  • Woofer: 130 mm (5 in.)
  • Dimensions: (H x W x D) 800 x 165 x 340 mm / 31.5 x 6.5 x 13.39 in.
  • Weight: 10 kg / 22 lbs.

3050 Specs:
  • Enclosure type: 2-way reflex
  • Bass Unit: 2 x 165mm
  • Treble Unit: 25mm
  • Frequency Response: 44Hz - 22kHz
  • Nominal Impedance: 6 ohm
  • Sensitivity: 92dB
  • Recommended Power: 25 - 100w
  • Crossover Frequency: 2.6kHz
  • Dimensions H/D/W mm:1020 x 310 x 310
  • Weight: 17.8kg
Edit: Been quite happy with the Alumni 5 centre, I like the low profile (10.5cm) for sitting under the TV. But would consider replacing with a 3090c to better match the Q Acoustics floor-standers. Quite fancy the 3020's as well but my rears are fine and don't think timbre matching is such an issue there.

Been reading up a bit on here about the 3050s. Sounds like ideal crossover with a 5.1 setup is about 80hz so guess I wouldn't really be benefiting much at low end unless bypassing the sub in direct 2.0 for music.

I really should try digging out the old Audyssey mic and play around with the setup again, not done it in years. Have moved the sub since last setup which is probably bad and learnt a few new things about setup after looking on here again.

Worked out my 904's are about 14 years old but they have been well cared for. Not used to stuff lasting so long, hard to resist the upgrade itch. How old is too old for speakers?
