Hi, I've had a sad experience with a Samsung PS43P3S, basically picture quality was unacceptable for me, the set had a lot of solarization and posterization, and the deep black performance was "mediocre". Anyway .. Is going to be changed for a Panasonic TH-42PA20 wich is a much better unit in terms of PQ. and only 1000 Euros more.

This is a link of the story on the american forum, before I found this one.

    http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=348273

The unit is going to be linked to a Digibox, Tivo, Aerial and Kiss DP500. I have a few q. for ppl having this set and a similar setup..

    - How this unit handles 4:3 transmisions with black bars (14:9) ?

On the Samsung, a mayor problem that I saw, was that when receiving 4:3 programming in 14:9 the unit was "unable" to fit the image properly on screen and fill the whole scrren

That image has back bars up and down, and if you try to use any of the zoom modes they zoomed too much. I've seen that some Panasonic CRT have a "Panasonic AUTO" mode that does just that, filling just the whole screen, bypassing any black bars.

    - Does the TH-42PA20 has that zoom mode ?
    - Has that unit any sort of "manual" zoom mode ?

I mean, a mode in wich you can adjust how much you zoom and where the screen is position vertically.

Does ths unit accepts 480p or 576p trougth scart ?

Besides, a link to the user manual will be apreciated.

As well, any view on this unit (either good or bad) will be appreciated.

By the way, any link to the service manual will be appreciated as well.

PA20 has component RCA for progressive and interlaced, Have you consider PWD6 perfect if you have a surround amp that switches video or you can get a Quintro etc. a fair whack cheaper, Unless you want the internal tuner and speakers of PA20.
Notsure on Zoom but MAW may be your man for advice on this.

    AFAIK the TH-42PA20 only has ... 3 x SCART, 1 x SVHS, 1 x Composite, 1 x VGA , 1 x DVI.

That's why I was asking, I mean, VGA is progresive, but I wonder if the scart RGB will be progressive as well.

Yes, the unit has to be used by my family as well, so the "thing" has to be as "telly" like as possible. and the unit with speakers "just" fits the space that I have in my furniture. therefore is a question of "looks".
