I know a lot of people are monitoring the prices of these screens pretty closely. AV Sales have just dropped their price to £1395. See here

    http://www.av-sales.com/plasma/html/panasonic_th-42pwd7_plasma.html

If you see it any cheaper let me know! That £2300 PV500 is looking pretty damn tempting and I need to buy one of these WPD7s before I do something financially silly!!!

    I agree!!

I started reading these forums about 2 months ago knowing approximately nothing. I now consider myself pretty well informed (a conversation with the monkeys in the local Martin Dawes convinced me of that!!)

I really think the PWD7 is the one for me but I'm nagged by the fact that its not Hi Def and in as much will only produce an approximation of HDTV in 2 or 3 years time. I can;t see there being a massive market for 2nd hand plasmas so I really wanna get something I can live with for the next 4 or 5 years. That said do I really want to pay £1000 more for the piece of mind. No probably not.

And of course there is the fact that a friend working at Pioneer reckons I may be able to get an XDE through him for £1800 in a matter of months. Do I wait for that? Do I spend more than I should on the PV500? Do I get the PWD7 and start enjoying plasma!!!?

mate...if you are making a 4 to 5 year investment, perhaps don't do it...pay the extra and go for hd ready now.....however, my take (for what it's worth) is this.....A) sky hdtv will be a few years before it has enough content to make it worth really considering.....B) ....even then..if it's the same cr*p you get now anyway but in higher def....so what?? (sport excepted.....but my sd pic on sport is pretty damn good anyway)...C) I'll be bored in 2 years anyway and will buy again then (if not b4!)

There's no easy answer is there? The sums of money involved are so large, there's so much that needs to be taken into account to get your money's worth and ultimately you can spend a small fortune even after you've bought the panel!!
I think I'm going to wait for the reviews of the PV500. See how it handles Sky and SD and make a decision. Hopefully by then the PWD7 will only have dropped further in price and I can make a decision then.

While this deal does give more flexibility, the previous forums price included a free stand and £100 ISF voucher. Add £78 for the discounted stand and the additional £50 for ISF if you take it up and the price has actually gone UP (to £1523 from £1514 (from memory)).

    True enough Jim!

I'm looking to wall mount and ISF calib can wait so I suppose I was ignoring those factors. Don't think we'll be waiting too long for the competition to drop their prices esp with new series out next month

AV-sales don't have much in the way of retail competition they are the only public retail suplier of the PWD7 that i am aware of. Most supliers of the PWD7 series are Busines trade acount supliers and dont realy suply the public.

It's a SD screen and will reflect the market naturally, in 6 months time no one wants to buy one and the retailers will do anything to get rid of stock.

Buy a HD screen and you will be prepared for many years ahead, don't buy old technology today when it's already outdated.

£1395 is alot of money for old technology, £500 is more like current market price i believe.

The qusestion was why is the price diference between the PWD7 37-and 42 inch screens only £5, when the price disference between the PW7 37-42 inscreens was a couple of hundred. Both are SD screens.

Just had a thought AV-Sales have just sold the last of their 37" PW7's in the last couple of days. so prices have not been up dated yet. Perhaps now that they only do PWD screens we will se a further reduction on the 37" screen. Relitive to the price diference on the old PW7 screens.

Anyone know what the situation is regarding stock levels of the PWD7 (either 37 or 42 in)?

Stock levels on pwd7 should be ok for the next few months the PWD8 is not out until late sep early oct. and AV sales took a good few months to shift the last of their PW6 screens last year. And as i said earlier AV-Sales are prety much the only place that suply PWD screens to the general public.

The following link to AV-sales offers a better deal on accessories, like the £78 for stand that jiml mentioned http://www.av-sales.co.uk/plasma/html/panasonic_th-42pwd7bk.html.

I'm with mep on the HD issue. I won't have sky because I'm not interested in football. When I want to watch a movie I want to decide what to watch and when, so I'll buy or rent a dvd (great now on component) and it will still be cheaper than subcribing to sky.

I am quite happy with what Freeview offers and the PQ from my Fusion FVRT100 is excellent.

No idea why you think AV sales are almost alone in selling the PWD, loads of places do it.

Hey don't shoot the messenger!!! I know that AV-Sales are always at the top of the list. Its just at the moment I spend so much time mooching in the deepest far flung corners of the internet looking for that extra one or two hundred quid off that will finally push me into buying my first plasma. Just reporting whats out there so hopefully someone else won't have to waste all their time!! Deep down I know that whichever set I go for will probably come from AV Sales!!
