:lease: ive read all the comparisons between these models but hi-def or price are always the issue, so would appreciate peoples views for purely dvd use!

options i think pw8 - phd7/8 - pv500 - 436xde

like i said this screen will be stictly DVD use,
love the idea of hi-def but think its to uncertain in its format and unknown requirements to base my decision on!

so would you notice much of a difference, if so which one is better?

of issue a little but why i have peoples attention...
is the issue of 'horizontal line' in the pv500 found in the pw8/phd8?
is there a huge difference between the phd7/phd8

thanks in advance!

the phd8 accepts 50hz HD over digital, vital for Sky HD and maybe HD DVD/Blu Ray (so does PWD8, but not PHD7)

Surely if you are interested in DVD you will be interested in the winner of the next format war? If so the obvious two are 436xde and PHD8. Personally I would avoid the PV500, but only because the PHD8 is a better option, not because its bad :).

If you will literally only be watching SD DVD for 10 years, the PHD8 would give a better image, but its probably not worth the extra money, maybe the PHD7 would be better than the PWD8 at SD as well? I don't know, someone else will :D

cheers for the quick reply chedmaster!!!

dont get me wrong, i love hi-def!!!! but im sick of hanging on, and reading about whether it will be blue ray/ hd-dvd, or whether 1024 can ever really show true hi-def or if you need 1280? blah blah blah :suicide:

i would love to buy the 506xde or the like but without worrying about having bought a 'betamax' type screen, so ive decided to spend less and get something i will use now, and i wont be throwing away my dvd collection once hd gets here, so at least i can move my purchase to the bedroom and justify a spanking new led tv or whatever they pull out of the hat next!!!

i was thinking the same as yourself about phd being the option but didnt really have any reasons or facts to back it up!
cheers

its not the screen that will be obselete its the player. So long as you get a HD ready screen, both formats will work on it, so no need to wait!

i know its not relevant with the 506xde, but what about 'whether 1024 can ever really show true hi-def or if you need 1280'

hell i even got to the point were i thought "hmm the new 40"sony lcd?"

it was reinforced with the hi-def i saw on it but then...... DVD  soooooooo far behind the pio&panny plasma that i went to a different shop to double check, and that was the end of that option! so much for lcd&plasma being equal at dvd!!! :nono:

so whats your take on the 1024? issue
