    Hi,

I am new to the plasma scene, so please forgive me if these questions have been asked before. I have read and followed other posts but would like to be sure before proceeding with my plasma purchase. I am considering buying a PW6 to replace my existing widescreen CRT (Philips 32" Pixel plus), which I have been quite happy with picture wise but would prefer the bigger plasma. My budget is £2200, I have a few questions if someone would be kind enough to answer.

    1) I know the plasma would be inferior to my Philips CRT in PQ, but would this really be noticeable ? What were other people's feelings when they moved from a good quality CRT (that you adored) to a Plasma. I don't want to be left with a big screen, with bad PQ.

    2) What will I require to connect to the plasma for best PQ ? After reading other posts, I was thinking of a Quintro Scart Switch Box and a RGB to Plasma Screen VGA converter, is this correct path to take ?

    Equipment :
    Sony DVD player (scart rgb)
    XBox (scart rgb)
    Sky+ (scart rgb)
    Yamaha AV Receiver (HTR5540)

    Your help much appreciated.

    Thanks
    Shaf.

I have just moved (installed last night) from my 28" sammy widescreen to the PW6 plasma - I loved my tele - no hassles but the PW6 is great :)

I use the rgb - scart box for my sky + and the quintro for my dvd, xbox etc.

I spent a long time last night looking at all sources and am very happy with pq - esp sky+ believe it or not - looks prety good on most channels!

    Go for it :)

Exactly what I am about to buy (I might have to wait for the Quintro, as it's another £60)
but all the parts will only cost you £1910 + stand/wallmount

    Thanks for your replies.

@Gof, Its good to here that you are enjoying your plasma :), Is there a specific reason why you are not using the Quintro for your sky+ ?

@pjclark1, yes the PW6 seems like a good buy atm, you can pick one up at a good price. My cost estimate came a bit higher than yours though :

    PW6 plasma 1898 (digital-point.co.uk)
RGB to Plasma Screen VGA converter 120
    Quintro+ 60

    Total 2078 + stand(135)

Where are you thinking of buying it from ?

    Thanks.

    Hi
Just joined forum so be kind

Am proposing to get Pana PW6 with component video terminal board , Sky+, Pioneer dvd player with component video output (progressive), Denon AV amp with up conversion to component video of all video inputs.

I am proposing to connect the Sky+ via RGB to VGA converter (JS) into the Pana's existing vga input. The DVD player (plus vcr etc etc ) to be connected to the AV amp via component video cable with the AV amp connected to the component video input on the plasma.

Does this make sense/provide best picture. Don't need Quinox do I

Why does the PW6 spec not mention capability of switching aspect ratio eg 4/3 to 16/9. Presumably it includes the option on the remote control

    Tony

    Hiya,

Hey pjclark1, yes definitely getting a bit scary, your not looking to get the pedestal stand with it also ? :)

I have to go for the silver model and spend extra as all my existing equipment is silver.

Does anyone own an xbox and use this to watch movies? I use this to watch most of my movies and would like to know how it looks on the Plasma, can't see there being any problems but you never know.

    Thanks
    Shafiq
