Hi everyone, some advice for a beginner would be much appreciated.

I've set up my system as follows

Sony DAV S550 > Panny PW6 via component to vga (using BNC monitor cable with RCA adaptors)

    PS2 > DAV via optical

NTL box > DAV via scart to RCA

Basically everything is chained through the DAV > Panny

My problem is: although I'm able to get sound + vision from the DAV DVD, I can only get sound from the NTL+PS2. Is there some issue around upconversion from these inputs to the component outs? Or am I being a twonk & missing something obvious?

Any help much appreciated, particularly as the Grand Prix starts in 3 hrs!!

    :)

are you sure a DAVS550 will up convert video to component, (Composite for cable will look hoorendous) get a JS tech RGB>VGA box and daisy chain PS2 and ntl together and use DAVS for sound only

I think I've made the mistake of assuming because the DAV had relevant inputs & outputs it would do the conversion. I'm now doubting that!

I'm guessing the route you suggest would involve combining the VGA from the DAV DVD & the NTL/PS2 Converter chain?

keep DAV connected to component (optional component board) connect PS2>Ntl Digital (VCR scart) and Ntl (TV scart)>JS RGB>VGA converter to builtin VGA input on panel.
NOTE: you cant mix RGBHV (VGA) and Component (YUV,YPbPr) on the built-in 15pin D-sub (VGA connection)
JS RGB>VGA only works with RGB devices (will need RGB Scart cable for PS2)

Many thanks for this info hornydragon. Off to spend some more money (gulp) & do a temporary hookup on the old CRT.

This reminds me of costing for building works - think of a budget then double it!

    Cheers
