Dude, You need to go and check them out, side-by-side if possible. The proof of the pudding is in the eating.....

There are numerous people on this forum who have both positive and negative views on both of these displays.

Have you considered the Panasonic PHD8 panel? This has received some positive feedback. The 'sensible' money is on a panel instead of a TV. Depends if you want a tuner, speakers, SCART, Component, HDMI etc from day one.

For the record, the Pioneer and Panasonic are on my shortlist.

Cheers

After alot of research and uncertainty of my own, I decided on the Pioneer 506XDE.

As a first time plasma buyer, I hope I'm happy with it. :)

I would recommend the pv500 as I felt the 436XDE panning judder would annoy me too much when it comes to football. The blacks are not meant to be as good either. But the 436 is really nice looking. Not that I think the pv500 i ugly, actually my friends and i think it looks fantastic. But the 436 is nicer, also you do get 2 HDMI ports, but I wasnt that bothered about that, since I can get a HDMI switcher.

:smashin: I decided on the 42pv500 and use the 2910 via hdmi and to say im happy is an understatement :D DVD upscaled on 720p or 1080i looks amazing  As far as real hd material is concered i could'nt tell you which is the best as i have not seen it on neither but from what ive read and heard they are both very good indeed. I must say ive seen sky on both displays and the panny looked the better of the two especially as far as footy is concerned  but even though i opted for the panny i do think the pio is the sexiest of the two  mmmmmmm

They both are really good plasmas, I for think the Panny has the edge when it comes to PQ and Deep Blacks but others Im sure will disagree :lesson: . But the important thing for me was that the Panny was cheaper, important factor for me and more importantly the wife!
