Hi - I bought a 42" PV500 from a well know retailer. When it was delivered today I noticed that it had a label on the box saying it had been collected from a customer. I mentioned it to the delivery chap and he said he would look in to it.

The first thing I did was to look in the service menu. The unit has 33 hours on the clock already. Does this mean it has been used or is it normal for them to come out of the factory with hours on the clock?

Another big giveaway that the unit is used was the fact that the batteries were not sealed. They were loose in the bag with the cable isolaters. Shouldn't they be shrink wrapped?

I am very concerned. Hope someone can advise me. This doesn't seem right.

    P.

the batteries would normally be shrink wrapped. it sounds like they have sent you a previoulsy sold item.

1 hour is not unknown, though unusual, 33 I have never seen. Battery wrapping might well be the giveaway.

Sounds used to me, without a doubt.

Two ways of looking at it IMO :-

    A) It's part way through it's run-in and if no probs, it could be a good thing :smashin:

    B) You've bought second hand at new price, sling it back :thumbsdow

I'd go B) myself and do it ASAP, so you can prove it.

If you have a digi-cam take pics of the evidence for future ref. just in case it gets nasty.

yup jlp. How did you know?

i'll take a pic of the hrs display right away. I wish i had kept the box now with the label showing the previous owners address. The delivery drivers took the box away. However, they seemed like honest guys and said they will follow it up with their boss.

i have faith in jlp - i'm sure they will do the right thing.

was the box that they took away the actual box for the TV? if so, you might have problems if it goes wrong, as most manufacturers want the Tv back in its original packaging AFAIK

Most probs previously returned for a minor fault that they hope you won't notice.

Did the DVB Setup/owner ID screen appear when you switched it on for the first time ? (as I don't think you can reset the owner ID screen), if they didn't it's definately a second hand TV.You should have kept the box if it had someone else's address on it.If you are happy with the set and it's in perfect condition why don't you just try and get some compensation.

Hi guys - thanks for responding. The company I bought it from told me to hold on to the telly until they get a new one in stock. They will swap over when the replacement arrives and my warranty will start from that new tv date too! :)

The reason I don't want to hold on to this one is that it has not been run in. It was in dynamic mode with the contrast turned up.

Thanks again for responding - your posts saved me some stress :)

Av2diefor. New cars always have delivery mileage, sometimes a lot more than 15 miles.

Result, the funny thing is the previous owner probably sent it back because he didn't think much of PQ in dynamic mode !!

The default settings kick in if you leave it powered down, so not necessarily a problem.
But glad you resolved it anyway :smashin:

I just called the dealer I ordered from to ask about the box: they said I could throw it away, as Panasonic would send a technician (or two?) in case repairs are necessary. If the plasma had to be taken away, the Panasonic people would take it with them (they have blankets etc. for the transport).
I've just had the plasma for five days now, so I guess I'll hold onto the box for at least another week, in case problems arise that might prompt me to return it (I bought from an Internet dealer). This seems exceedingly unlikely at present -- I am so happy with this TV!!
Quite a step up from my old 27" 4:3 CRT...

P.S. I would suggest that anyone tempted to throw away their plasma box should check with their dealer first!

blankets etc are good when transporting crt's in vans, but if i were you i'd hold on to the box, plasmas are far more fragile.
unless of course the panasonic guys bring a box that fits your plasma excactly. :)
