Well just got my 42pv500 setup and it blows the pioneer away, picture quality off sky is just great, this was my only gripe with the 435xde but hats off to panasonic the pv500 is just amazing :)

Hi, great news to hear. Can you tell me, does the Panny use a separate AV multimedia box, or are the connections all directly into the tv?

I was really debating between this and the Pioneer 435XDE, I'm so happy to have found this thread.

Also, how much did you pick yours up for?

    Hi
Have you connected sky just to scart rgb on the tv or are you using any converters.
    Thanks Gonzo.

The panny does not have a seperate media box like the pioneer. All connections go straight into the back of the tv

here is a pic doesnt do it justice, taken off bbc1 via sky, and just connected with a cheap scart lead, have not put the huge mama one on it yet as it means unpacking a load of boxes job for tomorrow night, want to play tonight :)

the connections are round on the back plasma, behind a cover so no seperate tuner box.

ps. there are a lot of reflections on the screen was hard enough to get it like that will see if i can do any better once it goes dark

If you can get a digital camera with manual shutter speed, pause a DVD and then take a picture with the camera on a tripod at 1/4 second WITHOUT flash, this should give you a better digital picture.

its a picture taken with a digital camera! what do u want from it? the whole picture looks to bright with not enough contrast, like I said Piers is coming tomorrow and he knows what he is on about so no doubt we will all know if the blacks are not as good as a pa50, personnaly I couldnt care less, as its better than the pioneer I sent back, but I am sure Piers opinion will be what a lot of people will be waiting for, not some crap picture taken with a camera.

just thought i would post these couple up, any one with xbmc will know the screen plenty of black on that round the edges , xbox is pushing out at 720p

and 24 was on sky one and was on a dark scene so thought would snap one of that while is was there, note the bright skyone logo in the corner.

Its weird i did the photos on my pc with a tft on it and am back on laptop now, and they dont look as good as they did on the pc with tft, pic looks blocky but its also blocky on the frame of the tv so i figure its either this laptop or the camera :) look perfect on my other tft, or maybe I am not that good with a camera :)

HD, I think dino is saying that the quality of the photo looks better on the TFT monitor he is using with his PC than it looks on his laptop screen. So, nothing really to do with the settings or PQ of the TV ?

I may be wrong but that is how I read it.

    your right :)

The only way your going to see how the blacks look is go and have a look at a demo cos the pics dont do it justice , or look at it this way I sent a 435xde back cos i thought it sucked and my mate had a pwd7 and I think it looks better than that. I have not seen a Pa50 so I cant comment.

I am getting a PV500 next month hopefully, and I will be getting it calibrated it aswell, if you get as much info from Piers as poss: :lease:

How far is it out (contrast, black levels etc)?
How does it compare to PE50, PWD7?
Is it a nightmare to calibrate?
Do you get all your inputs calibrated that are connected- PC etc.
Do you need to run it in first, or can you get it calibrated, then turn the settings down until it is run it?
How much better is it before/after?

    That's it I think

    Thanks

    Mal

    That post makes sense

If you waited for the next new product every time you would never buy anything?

Of course better will arrive next year you will buy that and better will come again the year after its one endless cycle.

You have to buy something eventually and the PV500 looks like its going to be superb for Sky HD

It's getting everywhere. Like many thousands of Europeans, I will be watching the UEFA Champion's League broadcasted live in HD tomorrow.

I can only agree after seeing the XDE and buying a Panasonic 500, delivery was supposed to be today but I changed my mind took the whole day off Thursday so I can have a good play with it.

I viewed a HDMI feed XDE against a Panny 500 with a scart feed DVD and the colours on the Panasonic are so much deeper, can't wait until Thursday then I'll connect up my Denon DVD player with a HDMI feed to get a true comparrison.

If my wife says the Panny quality's better then it must be

Just because Sky HD is not here does NOT mean HD is not here, many people have been receiving HD for ages

And The PV500 looks to be a great plasma to get for the launch of Sky HD because of the fact it accepts all resolutions as well as offering great picture quality you get from other Panasonic plasmas

Everyone I know who bought the XDE did so because it was HD ready and Panny did not have a screen that was at the time. That has all changed now.

I took a pic of the series 7 HD panel the other day with Sky showing, the scene is very saturated in colour, but gives you an idea of what the panny panels look like, well as long as youare not looking at it on a monitor that is out of whack!
