I purchased a low end TV, a fujicom fj494k, and while it is officially a smart TV the software is really horrible. Is there a way to put some kind of updated software onto the TV?

Fujicom is not a brand that is sold in the UK. I think it is very unlikely that the software on it, or any other make, can be updated beyond whatever the manufacturer pushes out. Generally this would be to add a new App or two. The TV would need to be connected to the internet and you should find a software update mode in the menu. You could either update manually or set to automatically download anything new from the manufacturer. It seems to be a TV for the Israeli market so I don't know what you can expect in the USA.

Why not just buy your own smart TV box or stick?
