Put tension on a spring

Distinguished Member
For what purpose?
It might be easier to justget a replacement spring to the desired tension?

You can't really add tension to a spring without really damaging it, maybe changing the coils, but spring tension is down to the type of wire used and the coils.
I have one of those car keys that you press a button and the blade snaps out. Its not coming out proper due to the spring inside. Was hoping there would be a way to tighten the spring.
