Hi everyone

I've got an old mountain bike that has thick knobbly tyres - 26 x 1.95. I'm thinking of doing a bit of cycling on the road and was wondering if these would fit on my bike:

Halfords | Schwalbe City Jet Bike Tyre - 26" x 1.5"

If I did fit the above:

1. Would they provide better performance for cycling on the road?
2. would I need to replace the inner tubes as well?
3. If the above aren't suitable, I'd appreciate recommendations on tyres that would be.

Thanks in advance for all replies.

I fitted hybrids to my bike for better road use and they are great. The good thing is you can still go off road if you need too. Those should fit, but if in doubt take your front wheel with you.

It'll definitely improve things, but what bike do you have? If it's an old heavy steal job, then you'll still find it hard work

I replaced the 26" knobblies on my hybrid with 1.95" City Jets & didn't really notice any difference. Whether the 1.5" would have who knows. I didn't want to go that narrow as there's plenty of loose stuff on the lanes I ride & I've a few moments even with the 1.95".

But plenty report a useful increase in speed due to the lower rolling resistance, so it may just be I'm too old & slow to take advantage!

You'll probably get more response in the cycling thread in GC.
