Pull Up / Chin Up bar

I've been considering a pull up bar for home, and the most convenient I would say looks to be the one that goes in the door frame.

However I am struggling to look past the potential damage to the door frame, or how safe it would be.

I'm just shy of 15 stone, has anyone experience with these?

I use one all the time. The iron man one from Amazon. No damage at all to the door frame. The only thing I do have is a couple of light scuff marks on the paint. Which could be remedied with two minutes work and a paint brush

I've got EXERCISE BAR / DOOR BAR, PULL UPS,CHIN UPS SIT UP BY EVERBRIGHT PLUS: Amazon.co.uk: Kitchen & Home
I never seem to have time for exercising lately (plenty of excuses though) but I got this a year or so ago and put it in the doorway between the living room and the kitchen and its actually on top of some plastic trunking that carries the speaker cable for the rear speakers and its not even damaged that. Great bit of kit!
Since I got one, my neighbour and my dad have both got one!

Do you already train? Chin-ups are a hard exercise and at your weight (not calling you fat!) it will be a challenge doing more than a couple if you are not used to it.

I go to the gym a few times a week, do weights at home and I'm always out and about with my camera and that weighs a ton :)

I fully expect only to be able to do a few at a time to start with, that's how I remember it from last I did them. I find it a bit embarrassing to be fairly muscled and struggle with pull ups in audience of the gym :)

I use one in a standard wooden doorframe. It's safe as houses. I'm 6'2" and weigh about 12.5 stone.

I used to do about 50 standard reps a day (underarm) but I recently switched to doing 'dead-hang' pull ups which are much tougher. Can do about 8 (overarm) or 10 (underarm). Brilliant and simple exercise.

Unfortunately my there isn't enough space above my bar for me to get my legs over- which would be good for abs work (the bit I need most at the moment!).

there are also various pullup routine on the web too like 20 pullup challenge etc - and they work on sets...even neg sets of 1 so, you'll start off doing 5x1 neg sets for example...
