Decisions Decisions. I thought I was sold on the Panny PT-AE900 as I currently own the PT-AE300 model and have had no probs for the 2 years it been with me. It's now time to upgrade (HD 'n' all that) and the Panny was at the top of my list, until I viewed the Themescene HD72i at the weekend, WOW!! It's the first DLP I've viewed and I was well impressed. Clarity, colours, black levels etc etc. all very good. I didn't see any of the claimed rainbow effect that is common on DLP's. Has anyone viewed both and if so what would you recommend? I 've checked the throw distance and their both about the same. I am lucky enough to have a dedicated room with black out blinds so ambient light is not an issue. I will be using it for DVD's and xbox only (until HD broadcasts enter the household).

If you're not bothered by rainbows, it has to be the H72i IMO.
Better blacks, better contrast, no pixelation whilst still retaining sharpness, no problems with verticle banding........

    Hi Kdog,

Someone will probably be along soon to say try and get a demo. And it's good advice, as knowlegable a bunch inhabit these forums you really need to hunt down a dealer willing to do a side by side on them if at all possible :)

I bought my HD72 at ben's place (Hi Ben :hiya: ).

I compared it to the Hitachi 200 and the Sony HS60.

I believe the Hitachi is broadly comparable to the Panasonic and to me the HD72i was the winner - and by a fair margin compared to the Hitachi. Better blacks, no issues with VB and no chance of dust blobs due to the sealed optics. The Sony was a very close second but the cost difference swung it in favour of the HD72.

But only your eyes will tell you.

And me? I'm happier than a pig in poo.

Thanks guys, will try and find a dealer where i can view both projectors side by side, if possible around my area. If i can't then it will probably be the HD72i.
