I recently e-mailed ProjectorCentral regarding the PT-AE300, as to whether it has any built in de-interlacing hardware, and received the following:

"All digital projectors have built-in deinterlacers. They cannot operate
without them. LCD panels and DLP chips are exclusively progressive scan
    devices"

Can anyone confirm if this is the case. Would there be any need for something like the Pro-V deinterlacer, in order to watch reasonable quality VHS/TV.

they are technically correct, in that the projector is progressive, but that doesn't mean the deinterlacer/scaler is any good.

I have an AE100 and personally I find S-video not that great, and a ProV improves things a lot. But the AE300 may have better internals, so you should get some feedback from AE300 owners before trying the ProV.

    Has anybody seen the AE300?
Is it any good compared to the Z1?
