i wonder is that means the pstwo will be able to go online.
ive read somewhere that theres going to be a built in ethernet adapter, but no hard drive bay means that theres no network adapter needed

Is there a socket for an external HDD then? It would be no use to me without the HDD.

To go slightly :offtopic: Is the PS2 HDD available in the UK as a stand alone accessory or is it available only as a network adapter bundle?

That's what I heard too, though they kinda mentioned "other" hardware may be possible. But, like it says in the link SquareEnix don't seem too pleased as they have said they may be taking FFXI to another platform before long. Of course a lot of gamers in Europe have the original PS2 but we are waiting for the hard drive.
If I get the new "PStwo" (I don't think that's officially it's name from Sony, but most journo's and sites etc have nicknamed it as such) it'll be an import. Cute little thing though!

There is no PS2 official HDD in Europe and with the release of the PS Two I'd hazard a guess that it will never appear.

This new design is the SCPH-70000 (or SCPH-70000CB for the standard Charcoal Black model), it's not called the PStwo and certain reports have called it that, but Sony have never mentioned "PStwo".

If there was any hope for the HDD to arrive in Europe then this new model has scuppered that as it won't support it, but the built in Network Adapter is a boon. As nice as it would be, the only game that supports the HDD it is Final Fantasy 11.

As for colours there's only been the black version so far but I would think other colours would arrive at some point.

Lastly, while I'm not surprised to see a redesign, this has arrived earlier that I expected. The PSone arrived just before the PS2 in November 2000 in Europe. I expect we'll see a rebranding when the PS3 arrives (whenever that is, late 2005, 2006) to put this model as the PStwo and pass the PlayStation name to the flagship PlayStation3.

im not too surpirsed actually at sony removing the ability of putting a hard drive in there. it would stop alot of back-ups/copies being done.
with the release of HD Loader etc.

I wonder if/when Microsoft will make a smaller XBox. I wonder how many people have been put off by it's sheer size? Sure the Americans don't mind, but what about us Europeans, and especially the Japs. I'm tempted to buy one due to the dire lack of games for the GC. Thing is, in the back of my mind I'm sure they'll have to bring out a smaller remodelled XBox.
