I've got a DragonPlus USB cable to connect my PC to my PSP. It detects it as a removeable drive when i switch the PSP into USB mode but when i use PSPVideo9 or Sony ImageConverter to copy videos or photos across it drops the connection part way throught the process.

Same thing happens when using explorer to drag and drop files across.

Anyne had this problem and fixed it by fiddling about with Windows settings or is it more likely that I have simply got a dodgy cable?

sounds like a cable? Have you tried another USB port?

Mine works flawlessly, infact i used it today to copy XP SP2 to a machine and worked a treat :D

I've no idea what make of cable I've got, but I only use PSPVideo9 to convert. I just got into My computer and drag and drop files to and from the Memory stick.

My PC is bang up to date with all Windows Updates, Motherboard updates etc.

It could be an older USB driver maybe, have you access to another computer and try connecting your PSP to that one?

My USB Cable and PSP also work fine on MAC OS X.

Must be the cable - mine works perfectly and never drops connection. The cable is just one that I got with my Canon digital camera.

Same here, never had a problem with my USB connection. I have been using the cable I got with my Sony Digital Camcorder.

I had exactly the same cable and EXACTLY the same problem.

After investigating it on a US PSP site it was confirmed as the cable, the Dragonplus ones are cheapy cheapy and not good. Which has been sent back the the eBay user I bought it off.

I'll be off to PC World tomorrow to get a decent cable.

Thanks Brooker - I'd tested it on 4 different USB ports on 2 PCs and reformatted the memory card in the PSP two or three times just in case. I'll send it back for a refund (was also an ebay purchase!).

Tell me about it. I tested it on 6 different ports, updated all my drivers and low and behold it was the simplest thing, the cable! What a waste of an evening!

Went to PC World today and got a gold plated cable, supposed to be £15, but was half price at £7.50 and it works fine now, no problem.
