Not a FAKE, but a hideous add on :D

but cheaper than mem card duo AND makes the PSP easier to hold.

Still would rather use a removable device though.

Give it time and Memory Sticks will go much cheaper (post Xmas I guess).

Hmmm, I cant see 4gb duos being cheaper than £140 till around February-March time, maybe it will be worth the wait, but the Datel one also boosts your batteries by 2-3 hours too. We've yet to see what this HDD allows us to exploit too, I got a feeling Sony will be watching this space with baited breath ;)

Also by that time larger HDD's will be available no doubt. I wouldnt be surprised if theres 10gb space and upto 10hrs battery life by then.

What if Sony have some way to stop the HD working via updates?

The PSP needs stuff like this to drive down the cost of memory cards.

The main reason for the storage (for me), was for movies and you do ask yourself - do you spend £80 on a 1gb card or the same amount for a portable DVD player? It just didn't make sense spending that much on a postage stamp sized piece of plastic.

I've bought a 512mb card for £32 as a temporary measure and then hopefully get some kind of larger storage when prices are sensible.

Well if they're not happy with Datel they'll take it up with them I presume. Im just waiting for the first batch to ship out and hear the feedback. Im guessing some HDDs will be considered better than others etc.

a sony 4gb memory card will cost you £699 so i doubt they will drop to £140 by march and they have only just realeased the 4gb cards

Thats a good point, which means that this Datel could be a good option for most. Everones expecting demand for this device to be HUGE!!!

indeed, its taken almost two years for 1gb pro duo stick to become commonplace and still at a premium price compared to other non proprietary storage types. This trend has existed with memory sticks and pro duos in every capacity available since their release.

well i think prices may well drop. PSP is Sonys biggest release for ages and they aim to make as much dosh as possible selling mem duos. Now that other manufacturers are bringing out bigger mem solutions for much cheaper prices SONY are going to have to respond.

By the time 4 gig duos are down to a decent price others may have brought out 8,12 gig or bigger solutions much cheaper
no ones going to be interested in a 4 gig duo card then are they?

The prices are artificially kept high IMO how can i get a 1 gig card for £50 but a 2 gig costs £130 cheapest, thats just a plain rip off.

If Sony start seeing sales disappear you watch those prices start to fall.

PSP is there flagship product up until PS3 and then the 2 are supposed to link up, so its vital they dont kept squeezed out of their own market.

I am sorely tempted by the twin pack of the battery and hard drive though. It'd be handy as 1 gig really isn't enough for movies, music and games. I'll wait for it to drop to around 100euro though.

if the battery pack and the hd are the same size its going to be a fairly hefty addon to your PSP. i have the datel maxx2 battery (for back up) and it is fairly chunky, about 3 x thicker than the standard battery.
so all your hard cases will have to be binned!

nb dont expect it to be released for anything like 100 Euros for a very very long time. Its cheaper than a 2 gig duo inc the battery!

thanks for the kind words.
please note i said probably. datel have NO INFO ON THIS PRODUCT. THE PICTURE IS A COMPUTER GENERATED SIMULATION. MANY WEBSITES ARE ALSO SAYING ITS FAKE(http://www.psp-vault.com/Article334.psp). UNTIL SITES LIKE LIKSANG SAY "IN STOCK" THEY ARE ALL JUMPING ON THE BANDWAGON. as you say. jesus christ. like the poster after you said. the other posts were not there when this thread was started.

I don't expect it to be dropping for quite a while, but I have no rush on it. I'm getting a 750i and I'm going to have a gig stick in that as well, so I can store PSP stuff on that and transfer back and forth.
