Once I get hold of one of these (and boy is it not easy - trawl Croydon every day and went to Oxford Street today - no joy), what would be the essentials that I need? I have heard from a PSP owner that a better case is crucial but apart from this is there anything else?

A memory stick duo (thats the shorter ones, not long, old style)

Use a price comparison site, kelkoo.co.uk or pricerunner.co.uk
Don't pay more than £55. ebay may be cheaper if you find a nice seller

Thanks all - quite a list. Agreed that is would be sensible to wait for the 21 November but can't wait!
Still no joy in finding one. Will be geting the case recommended and the dvd to psp software.

Not long now (only hours). What about a screen protector - is this essential or as it is not a touchscreen and will live in a case mostly is a screen protector not required?

I think a screen protector is essential. It does 'dim' the picture somewhat but for the proection is gives I think it's worth it. Some people don't put them on cos it's quite tricky but if you follow the instructions to the letter you shouldn't have any problems. I had mine for a month and started to notice tiny surface scratches (similar to an iPod) so that's what convinced me, and that was when I had it in its case all the time!
