USA get a confirmed release date of March 25, and I have just read that there are strong rumours that the European date has gone back to "second quarter"

******** to Sony UK, I shall be ordering mine from America ( it will probably still work out cheaper anyway !!)

Just thought I would share the news :thumbsdow

What are the implications in buying a PSP from the states? Are the games region locked? Different power supply?

From what I have read there is no region code on games, but there will be for movies. But if you wack all the films you want onto memory stick it does not really matter.

Not too sure about the power supply issue, I would imagine some sort of power convertor will be required.

www.dvdboxoffice.com has PSP's listed for £139.42 delivered. I bet the UK price is more than that if they ever get round to announcing it !!!!.

    Amazon.co.uk say £180 for theirs.

Trouble is import tax on £130 will probably be £50 all in (including royal mail tax  )

No reason why the power supply will be any different that the one which comes with the JPN model so all you need is a standard cable like theo ne which came with the PS2 and XBOX.

Power supply will be dual voltage like most Sony handheld devices to save on production costs. I got a Sony DVD camcorder in the states in Jan and this is also the case.

There are some killer pre order deals in the us like :

    http://www.babbages.com/product.asp?product_id=B020248I

£260 :) look at all the gear you are getting, A decent film and a few decent games plus a load of accessories. They reckon inventory will be tight and most of the outlets doing the really good deals like this wont ship to the UK

:( Gutted I would get this pack straight away.

That's a good deal, I bet they wont put together any decent packages like that for the UK release.

If the rumours are true about the UK release beeing delayed I am glad I pick up a Japanese PSP

Trouble is with Gamestop is they send there stuff via UPS (supposed to be economy shipping) and they are one of the worst places to get stuff imported with if you want avoid custom charges.

I always get hit £11 UPS fee plus £6 tax on most imported ps2 games, major rip off and people complain about royal mail at least its only £4 fee for them.

So your probably looking at around £320 to get one of those packages

A lot of people are doom mongering. They may turn out to be right - but my sources still say 11th March for DS and 18th March for PSP.

You maybe right, but if they say when it is released that is not set in stone as release dates are subject to change

    Fingers crossed

Whats annoying me is the street price for the basic console in the UK looks like being double that of the states.

I`m just going to have to take a holiday in the states end of March beggining of April, No way Im getting ripped off to this extent. If you look at this package for £60 more than the basic UK console price you are getting 3 decent games (UK cost £105) A decent Film (UK Price £24) and a load of accessories that must be worth another £30. So a least a 50% saving.

Incidentally Gamestop wont ship this to the UK anyway.

This comment from the article is interesting :

"it didn't take all that long for Sony to start outselling Nintendo on a week-by-week basis"

If its already outselling the DS in Japan Nintendo much be seriously worried. Handhelds are the only thing that keep them going.

I think you can assume the amazon estimate is accurate. As one of the leading suppliers you have to asssume they have an accurate street date.

yeah id be inclined to think it was gonna be april sometime.

the rumblings are saying Sony are gonna be wiped out stock wise by the US launch. They are still struggling to fill demand in Japan, think what it will be like when there are some games in english us rich westerners want to own?

So amazon are now saying April - stuff that its time to pre-order from the states - VideoGamesPlus is doing it for 499CAD which works out about £215 including Ridge Racers - I was very impressed with these guys for my DS - no tax, very very quick delivery etc etc ... Im guessing the Canadian date is the same as the us date ?

I`m definately going the US route. Looking at picking up one of the launch bundles which includes the value pack, three decent games a UMD film and accessories for around £260.

    http://www.babbages.com/product.asp?product_id=B020248I

Unfortunately it looking like I will have to make a trip there to pick one up. Monkey leader you go there quite a bit on work. Is it not worth you picking one up on your next trip and saving yourself some cash ?

Got my GameCube from Lik-Sang and have bought a few games since then. Can't fault them. They ship fed-ex so you will be paying customs tax on that price!

i would love to meet someone who didnt pay tax on a lik-sang.com import.

play-asia pay the tax for you but they dont work out that much cheaper.

Why don't you order from www.dvdsoon.com or www.dvdboxoffice.com. Ok, they might not be the quickest (at times) to get items shipped, but I have ordered 10+ games between the 2 and have never been charged import tax. If you're looking for 3 day and want to avoid paying import duty, you might try www.videogamesplus.ca. I've heard only good things about this company, and they are only slightly more expensive than dvdsoon or DBO, (about £32 per game del compared to £28).

Maybe I've been lucky, but I have never paid duty on goods bought from Liksang. Which includes games at £45 and pads at £30. Just been lucky so far I guess. Though I always go with the cheapest delivery option. Maybe that has something to do with it.

I`ve never had any problems either but orders have always been less than £50.

Its quite expensive so quite a bit of tax and duty payable. I`m getting mine in the states.
