    In Japan anyways! :D

Its coming on the 12 of December, yes thats 12/12!

Price wise, 20,000Yen (100squids) for the machine. And the games, a bit more pricey, around 5000Yen or 25 squids.

It may seem cheap to you chaps, but for us punters living in japan, its actually a bit expensive for the games. I mean you can buy a PS2 game for roughly the same.

I have my reservations about this machine. The battery life for one. ALso the fact that there is no Wi Fi service to speak of in Tokyo, (sad I know) makes the wi fi capabilities pointless. Also, how many people are going to rebuy games for the PSP that are already out for the PS2? At first maybe yes, but in the long term i think people wont be able to buy new releases for both machines at the same time.

The box looks good. Therea re also lots of accesories to buy. A memory stick inspired by the PSP. (Basicaly any memory stick will do though.) A power supply and an extra battery! (im sure thats the first thing everyones gonna buy)

haha i knew i'd be right! My mate said it would be about £300 and i said there's no way and it'd be £149.99 and then get dropped to £99.99 when the Nintendo DS comes out. Wonder if it'll be possible to somehow play 'backup' games on it..

Being a disk based machine I immagine it will be region locked!

If you want to play Uk games on it you better buy the Uk version. Personaly Im buying the Jap version ass I live here.
Im geting Ridge Racer and GT4.
Ill see what else comes out!

As for price, well I will be paying the Jp price. I beleive that the price will be the same as the jap price minus two zeros. (20,000 yen will be 200 dollars and probably 200 quid.)

even though 200 quid does NOT equal 200 dollars!
But thats been going on for a long time in the UK!

Why get a PSP if you have a PS2?

I can understand if you travel a lot, but there isn't much point to someone like me.

To begin with it will be PS2 copys. they even admit this.
We will see more original titles later.

Personaly I want to have the power of the PS2 in my pocket (oh yes!) :rotfl:

TBH, the DS is nice and all, but basicaly its an N64. Not the most enticing thought.
I would rather have a PS2 than a slightly more powerful N64 in my hand.

The PSP offers more than just games anyway.
Movies and music will be on their way.

As for the time and place to play it, well in japan most people can spend up to 2 hours commuting to and from work on trains, so it is the perfect time killer.
(remember, the PSP is primarily designed for japanese people. western markets come second)

I see people playing their GBA's all the time, me to as a matter of fact.
Only the GBA has a childish feel to it and i sometimes feel embarrased to play it in front of all those lovely japanese schoolgirls as they oftern giggle if they see me playing it!

I wont see giggleing if they see the power of the PSP in my pocket!

Stil beleive it or not, just bcoz you play games doesnt mean you are a "geek" here!
It all depends on WHAT you play!

ie A Nintendo system is considered childish but a Sony Product is not.

Besides, my reason for buying the PSP is not only for games. I want to see music, and videos too.

The screen size is also very enticing. The DS screen is the same size as the GBA screen.
Too small in my opinion to play N64 games.

And just becoz some games will suport touch screen functions isnt enough reason to buy the system.

Nintendo give us a trickle at a time.
Sony are going full out and giving us a portable PS2. With a huge screen and video and audio content too!

Im sure you all thought just as the industry thought, that when the PSP was first announced it would have roughly the same power as the PS1, not the PS2!

No, I live in Bristol/Bath area, Bath is a huge tourist area and there are a lot of Japanese using public transport :)

My brother is going out to Japan soon though, I am hoping to go to Australia and visit him at some point, I have always wanted to go to Tokyo.

I tend to use a handheld console when flying abroad somewhere as it's so damn boring stuck on a plane for hours. At the moment I have a Gamboy Advance SP, but really only use for a couple weeks a year (when I'm on holiday!!). If we're going to be completely honest, the GB advance is utter crap. The graphics are dire, almost a relic on the mid 90's. I agree that there seems little point in buying a PSP if you have a PS2, but must be great when going on holiday or staying at the in-laws!! I wonder though if this would be permitted on a plane as it uses a disk?? I'm sure most people are awre that you cannot use a laptop CD drive.

Only during take off and landing. Durng the flight it IS ok to use anything. even if they so not to.

The PSP is the more appealing machine for me as I already have so many machines at home i find it hard to spend time with all of them. With the PSP ill be able to give my "PS2" games more time. I actually spend a lot of time traveling so its good for me!

The same reason people will buy a GBA to play snes games. Some of these people will even have owned and played the same games they're buying all over again! Also, the same people who will buy a DS and Mario 64.

I bought an sp for use on the way to work, (usually at least hour there and back). I bought a copy of the remake of the snes zelda (which I'd played, completed and still owned for snes). Just because I thought it would be a good game for the journey. Then I found out that playing the sp for more than 5 minutes made me feel travel sick and that was that. Brother got a free gift. Luckily I'd bought the sp 2nd hand so it only cost £50. The game was £28 though! Probably could have picked the snes version up for £5.

If people like a game ebnough they will buy it for PSP. Personally while I like the look of the DS and PSP, I far prefer playing games at home on a bigger screen.

I find that's part of its appeal. I get to play many of my old Amiga games plus loads of arcade classics when I'm travelling - it's fantastic.

Granted though, whoever thought it was a good idea to port things like "Medal of honour: Underground" And "Driver 2" should have a red hot poker inserted into him.

Not looking promising looking at lik-sang... quote 'Not all import gamers worldwide will be able to get their unit from the first batch, and those few lucky ones who must and can receive theirs at launch need to get used to launch prices - which is by now US$ 450 to US$ 600 for a Value Pack and game.' The thing is at current exchange rates I wouldn't be surprised if it would be possible to sell it on and make a profit to someone desperate for one as an Xmas prezzie!

    Andy.
