If anyone in SW/SE London is looking, I was in Virgin in Croydon getting a game this evening, and they had a whole box of them behind the counter. Not sure if they are reserved for pre-orders though but worth a try perhaps.

Seriously Sony have had some good PR working on the psp.

The number of articles i've read in the past week saying psp's will be in short supply even tho sony spokesperson is quoted as saying there will be enough in the same article.....

Kristian Guru Murphy (sp?) on Ch4 lunchtime news gave the Sony bloke a bit of a grilling on the lunchtime news about the fact that it only uses Sony's propiorty hardware- umds, msticks, and the way that they have been taking importers to court over 'grey' imports.

I'm not too keen on the way it's being marketed as a full multi-media device when you'd have to then spend another wad of cash on a decent sized memstick to fulfill those functions. I think many parents will be caught out.

But on the other hand, if parents are buying it for their kids in the first place, then it is unlikely that the kids will be old enough/interested in downloading music/video/photographs etc. They are probably using it as a portable gaming device.

Okay so what do we think happened here then. . . . . .

I popped into Curry tonight to pick up Medievil (Great game!) and they had plenty of PSPs in stock. So why did this happen?

Do we think that Sony could not afford any more egg on their face after such a long delay so they flooded in the units, or do we think that so many people bought imports that there is now surplus supply?

Sony (as usual) overhyped the psp, claiming all preorders were sold out etc. Lo and behold most high st shops had 'em. This actually worked on me as i rushed out this am to get one (dont trust preorders). currys, comet, toys r us all had em. Hmm maybe theyll run out by the weekend.....

i think that in today's age of ebay and the internet in general and the fact that the psp is game region free, a lot of the 'hardcore' gaming or gadget people who usually would have waited for the uk psp have gone down the import route.

the psp has been out for about 10 months in japan now and after the initial release hype had died down you could pick one up for the same price as you'd pay for a uk one.

Was it just me, or did there seem to be a complete lack of media news for the UK launch on 01/09/2005? I did not hear a single thing in the news this week, but there certainly was a lot of news when it was released in Japan.

It was mentioned on radio 1's newsbeat, and also during a few shows, they said they were interveiwing people at midnight who had them on the 1st.

Also the daily mail had a whole page article, with the headline 'Sony profitstation' about how it was cheaper in america.

i think it's been in the news loads from what i've seen, definatley on ch4 news.

it's been dubbed the 'must have gadget of the year' in loads of general interest magazines.

chris moyles on radio 1 was saying that hadn't been sent one the day before release and then on release day they had got one to him...... cue him talking about how good it is.

and i can't honestly remember it being in the news at all on the jap launch.

Argos keep having stock increases, probably because people are reserving and then not picking up.

So keep checking as they have some good deals.
