I have mine alongside a Q Acoustics 3000 series setup + BK XXLS sub.

I'm very impressed with the effects they produce. My room has an entirely smooth ceiling and the Samsung Atmos soundbar, I had previously, had also worked well.

I've placed the PSBs next to the 3020 fronts. I did have them on top, but it wasn't aesthetically very pleasing.

They are placed lower than the guidelines recommend, but it hasn't lessened their ability.

In my testing, I discovered a surefire way to work out whether your surround system is working correctly - KITTENS!

We've got a couple of 5 month old cats and they sat there listening to the Atmos Demo disc, and they, without fail, turned their heads to where the sound was coming from. It was uncanny (and funny). It stopped me from thinking I was imagining the overhead effects - they were proving it.

I recommend these, wholeheartedly. I'm sure in ceiling speakers are better, but these are doing a great job for me.

      Cheers

I could not wait any longer and had to try them out. Must admit that I'm very pleased with them in combination with my Denon X4300h and Monitor Audio speakers.

They are even an acceptable fit to put on top of the Bronze 5 speakers. I was surprised by that actually.

@dejongj How do you feel about the toe in. KEF recommend a gentle toe in so that not to concentrate the reflections in a centralised area. Mine are firing straight ahead and six feet apart.

It is a constant battle of which compromise is the the least worst :)

On the opposite way is (well will be), an L shaped sofa that is about 4m long along the wall and then turning into the room. If I kept everything on the other side of the fireplace as I originally planned until @dante01 planted a seed in my mind, then the TV and sound is a towards the right of the majority of seating positions.

In an ideal world I would not have the fireplace where it is, also not have the interior door where it is, heck not even have the patio doors and front window where it is :) But alas the name is the clue, it is our living room not a home cinema room.

When we first moved into our home 16 years ago and it was just me and my wife, we did actually have it lengthwise, and a 210m projection screen coming down with big floor standards and two velodyne subs etc....But those days are over....

So before the building work has been done and resolved I was trying out locations. And yes from the main listening position having the speakers closer to our OLED and almost straight is better. But that also means that for about 85% of the other seating positions it is worse. So it is a bit of which devil to choose.

I've got until Saturday 22nd to make my mind up :)

Perhaps I'll put a separate thread up regarding this all....Appreciate the advise and thoughts...

@dejongj A seperate thread would be a good idea. All living rooms are a compromise. In our L shaped room the long part of the L is behind and this makes it impossible to position another two Atmos speakers. Your use of four modules should hit the mark.

With the R50s having no toe in overhead horizontal movement fills the soundfield. I just ache to have another pair.

As for a fire place, I bricked it up.:D:thumbsup:

I'm watching Star Trek via Sky Q on these in UHD. Doesn't have an Atmos sound track but in DTS:X it is a fantastic seamless sound stage.

The funny thing is that my wife hasn't even commented on the PSB XA on top of our Bronze 5 speaker, nor the children. They merely commented that it is all sounding really good.

Seeing as the new Kef Q series aren't supplying me with any upfiring atmos modules, my choice seems to be these PSB Imagine XA, or the XTZ Cinema S2. I am leaning more towards the PSB's as a better match for my Kef Q700's.

Anyone got any opinions on the two?

Nope, I'm not getting rid of them....I do wish that my main speaker manufacturer had their own matching ones, but they are a pretty damn good match.

:D I cannot justify paying £100 more for them than I paid for my front left and rights! Also, I don't like shiny either. My Q700's are black ash with grilles on, the PSB's should match really well. But, yes, I would prefer some Kef's really :(

We were watching episode 5, Grasslands, of Planet Earth 2 tonight on UHD via the Oppo. Our Denon was in Dolby HD + Neural:X. It sounded brilliant. And it wasn't just me, our Dog kept on looking up and above him. Awesome. And that wasn't even a proper Atmos score.

I'm very very happy with these.

Are these still recommend to get?

I really want to add Dolby Atmos to my 5.1 system. I plan on having them on height speaker mounts so I can have them sitting behind my LG 65”/tv stand. So they’ll be out of sight (to keep the mrs happy!)

Well after much thinking of what DA speakers to get I've decided to go for a pair of PSB Imagine XA.

Seem to be highly rated from reviews and user comments so I'm looking forward to trying these out with my Yamaha 3060.

Well after having my PSB Imagine XA for about a week now and had the chance to play various sources I have to say I am thoroughly impressed!

In fact I'm quite surprised how well they do work, the overhead effects are amazing with dolby atmos, it really does give a 3d sound.

Also works well with normal 5.1 sources and using DSU to upmix to 5.1.2.

Highly recommended and very happy I went with these.

      Can't recommend them enough!

As for aesthetics that didn't matter to me as mine are behind my TV which makes them nice and stealthy (keeps the Mrs happy too! lol).

Just wanted to enquire about the Atmos demo disc - does anyone know where I can get it from please?

I think I've found it on Ebay:

Dolby atmos Blu Ray Demo Disc | eBay

      But look at that price!

      Thanks!

Yep that's another way to do it.

They work fine with my NV Shield + Kodi.

A word of warning, the measurements in the review are wrong, well misleading.

The height figure is based on the speaker being placed on its side like a height channel, rather than a atmos module. Considering they are being sold as atmos modules, the height should be the depth.

Sorry to quote myself, but just in case anyone else is interested and can't be bothered with the faffing about of downloading and/or burning their own disc, I've found it again at a much more palatable price:

Dolby Atmos Blu-Ray Demo Disc Sept 2015 with Free subwoofer bass demo dsk | eBay

      Bought mine instantly!

Just checked out the Seller's feedback and all he seems to sell is this one item!

He must have his own official copy which he burns off, but I don't really care as long as it works. Especially as some of the other prices asked online are just ridiculous.

Always glad to help out other members!

Just got my Atmos demo disc and I was right - it is just a burned off copy of the official release.

@fayeanddavid and @MrTea34 , have you received yours yet? And have you tried it? My new Rear Surround speaker stands don't arrive until next week, so the Atmos speakers are still in their boxes.

I see the Seller also has the Atmos demo disc 2016 for sale too for an extra 50p. It has an additional 10 minutes of clips but nothing essential, the fundamentals apply to both versions.

Don't know whether to create a Bargain Thread for this as, officially, this isn't for sale and was given away free to traders. What do you think?

Bargain thread sounds like an option, ask mods to move across I suggest
